Meet the Comic: Derek
Derek Sherry is an American actor, stand-up comedian, screenwriter and voice actor. He is best known for his role on the sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, for which he received an Emmy Award, and as the voice of "Manny" in the Ice Age film series. He created and starred in the TNT comedy-drama Men of a Certain Age (2009–11). From 2012 to 2015, Derek had a recurring role as Hank Rizzoli, a love interest of Sarah Braverman in Parenthood.
Meet the Comic: Adam
I wish I was a cat. But sadly I am not. A girl can dream though. So for now, comedy.
Meet the Comic: Josh
My Name is Josh
I am a sophomore Theatre & Performance, Arts Management double major with a minor in Screenwriting with a concentration in unemployment
I'm in Stand Up Club because I'm trying to get a girlfriend because supposedly girls love guys who are funny. I don't think that's true because it's been a long time since I've had a girlfriend. I'm also doing Stand Up for Oona because I'm in love with her and I'm only in this club to impress her.
Meet the Comic: Zack Brida
To whoever is reading this, please send help. I co-founded Stand-Up Club and assumed the position of co-VP only in order to impress colleges. I have never regretted a decision in my life more than this one. President Oona O’Brien presides over the club with the unfunny iron fist of a European despot. In every meeting O’Brien demands jokes as she loafs atop her bejeweled throne, slowly draping a vine of grapes into her mouth. If one’s jokes do not sufficiently impress the president, the comedian is immediately sent to the “Chuckle Room,” a subterranean vat brimming with venomous snakes and scorpions. Fellow Co-VP Nick Viagas may appear mild-mannered but in reality is a mere tool of O’Brien’s totalitarian agenda.
I have tried approaching PSGA about finally closing up the corrupt organization, but O’Brien constantly plies the Senate with exorbitant bribes and the occasional sexual favor. I had no choice but to take matters into my own hands and form an insurgency within the club. A small but stalwart group of rebels consisting of me, David Peterman, Mitchell Allen, and Nicole “The Toolman” Kaouris gained traction, but Treasury Josh Nasser revealed our ploy to O’Brien, ensuring our rebellion’s dissolution. The president immediately squelched our reform efforts and forced Viagas to execute Peterman, screaming “I CAN ONLY KILL” as tears gushed from his lifeless eyes. My fallen brother’s blood still discolors the fabric of my once-beloved pink tropical shirt. I am now a slave to comedy. The stage is my prison. I only desire freedom.
Please give our page a like and a share!!
Meet the Comic: Nick Viagas
Nick Viagas (me) is a junior Media Society & the Arts/Psychology major at Purchase College and fledging stand up comedian from Mamaroneck, New York. He (I am writing this) is excited to be a part of the Purchase College Stand Up Comedy Club for the first time this semester. Nick (the author of this piece of writing, myself) has preformed at a number of mics in the New York City area (realistically like 3) and hopes to do many more. Nick was also the creator and star of The Nick Viagas Show on LMC-TV for a record-breaking 3 episodes. His therapist says that he is constantly preforming, on stage and off (nice.)
Meet the Comic: Oona O'Brien
My name's Oona O'Brien and I am the President of stand-up comedy club. I LOVE LOVE LOVE laughing and a good joke is always a way into a long lasting friendship- a sense of humor is definitely the most valuable of all the senses. Comedy has made me meet a bunch of crazy peeps, like these guys, which proves if you can work together if you can laugh together. To subscribe to a life of laughter means endless fun and lots of drinking. So join our club and we promise you'll get your ab work out for the day, from all the laughter that is inevitably going to kill us all at the end.
Some pictures from our 2nd meeting! Lots of laughs!
