On May 24, 1521, right here in Punta, Ponce del Leon was attacked by Calusa Indians receiving a mortal arrow wound. One of his men was killed leading to the first white man dying on North America soil. Ponce del Leon died a few month later of gangrene. This attack was exactly 505 years ago today
