This quilt received the honor of being chosen by a national judge to be the best quilt in our biennial quilt show that concluded yesterday. The quilter was Marge Dunlap. The quilting was done on a regular sewing machine; the close-up finger shows how tiny and precise her free-motion stitches were! You are amazing, Marge!

Today was set-up day for tomorrow and Saturday's big quilt show. This afternoon, ribbons were placed on quilts of each of the quilt categories in the show. Here, some of our members are getting ready to attach ribbons to the quilts. Hope to see SW Florida quilt fans at our show!

Tomorrow our guild members gather together at the Charlotte Harbor Event & Conference Center in Punta Gorda to set up for this Friday and Saturday's quilt festival! SOOOOOOO excited!!!!

For those attending the festival and can't find a parking space at the center, the best alternative is the public parking garage at 201-219 Taylor Street. There will be shuttle going to and from the garage and the event center.

Hope to see you there!

What are many of our guild members working on right now? Fifty of our 304 quilters are working on our annual "Brown Bag Challenge."

How does it work? In January, the member who wishes to participate places at least four fat quarters into a bag and gives it to our "Brown Bag Queen." She then removes the fabric from the bag, takes a photo of it, and places the fabric into a new bag. In February, each participating member will receive a bag of fabric that was given by another participating member. (NO ONE knows whose fabric they receive! Only the Brown Bag Queen knows!) A project (or more!) must be made with that given fabric by the first Friday in December when the finished project will be presented to the person who originally gave the fabric. The only restriction is that all the fabric MUST be used in some way, but NOT every inch of the fabric. Also, other fabric may be added for the project(s).

Use the following link to look at last year's finished projects. The smaller photo in the top left of each photo is the fabric handed in (February). The other photo is the finished project(s) along with both the maker (revealed at this December meeting) and the original fabric person who now gets to keep the project(s) made with his/her fabric! The morning turned out to be a beautiful one with the sun shining bright at Candice's home dedication. We started off the celebration with a prayer and words from our CEO, Mike Mansfield, who thanked Center for Disaster Philanthropy for sponsoring this home.

Three members of our Board of Directors joined us and Paul Lioon spoke on behalf of the Board. He welcomed Candice to the Habitat family and said this dedication is a special one for him as it is his last one before he retires.

Candice had the opportunity to say a few words and thanked everyone for being there and for their part in helping make this dream of hers come true. This was a long road for her and her kids to get this new chapter and she is especially thankful for where her house is located. "I grew up in this neighborhood when I was younger and remember riding my bike to the convenience store and taking my sister to the park. It means everything to me to have the opportunity to raise my kids in the same neighborhood that I grew up in."

Our community partners presented the following gifts to Candice:

Tool kit from All Seeing Home Inspection
Personalized Gift Basket from Big Shot Marketing & Design
Bibles from Burnt Store Presbyterian Church
American Flag from Charlotte Bay Chapter DAR, Punta Gorda, Florida
Cleaning Gift Basket from Charlotte County Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors
Welcome Mat from Chris & Erica Rayborn, Realtors
Gift Certificate from Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity
Wooden Cross and Kid's Gift Bags from Englewood Methodist Church
Concrete Bird Bath from Legere's Coastal Concrete Creations
Handmade Quilt from Peace River Quilters' Guild
Emergency Lantern from Port Charlotte Global Methodist Church
One Year Subscription from The Daily Sun- Port Charlotte

Today was our 2023 Brown Bag challenge reveal! Here are half of the projects. The photos on top of each project show the original fabric handed in last January. Another guild member received it in February (not knowing whose fabric it was) and had until today to make thing(s) from the fabric. With so many members participating this year, we broke for lunch midway. Another video to follow!
