An amazing opportunity has come to WSU! An actor and assistant professor at North Idaho College, Adam Kroeger, has agreed to come visit and give us some training with Shakespeare in preparation for our upcoming production of Midsummer! This workshop is free, open to everyone, and is a great way to get some theatre experience weather or not you’re involved with Midsummer. Food will be provided, including lunch on Saturday!
SCHEDULE:
Friday will be a focused text work session. You should bring with you a printed Shakespeare soliloquy, monologue, or scene (in verse) written in 11-point font and double-spaced. The original line structure should be preserved. If you bring a scene, you’ll be required to bring a scene partner, and in addition it is recommended that you familiarize yourself with your piece beforehand. You will also want a full copy of the show your scene comes from (though it doesn’t have to be printed) and something to write in.
Saturday will involve getting the work onto the stage- applying the text analysis physically and vocally! You will want two copies of your script, and to be very familiar with it so that focus can be on application .
You do not have to go to both workshops, and if you have to hop in or out because of prior commitments, that is okay! Just keep in mind that everything you needed on Friday, you will need on Saturday, too, as it is an extension of Friday’s work.
This opportunity is amazing for actors and Shakespeare fans alike, and will allow for a richer understanding of the text. Can’t wait to see you there!
