Don’t protect your horses from every scary thing.
Don’t stop kids from running and yelling in the barn.
Don’t ask people to stop driving around because you’re working with a c**t.
It’s so important that horses learn to cope with the world around them—especially performance horses that are going to travel and compete in unfamiliar places. They need to understand that while something might make them uncomfortable, they’ll be okay.
In the wild, horses would run away from fear. But in our world, they need to learn to stay, think it through, and realize they’re safe. That kind of confidence only comes through exposure and experience.
People need to stop coddling and overprotecting horses. Start helping them learn how to handle pressure and discomfort in a healthy way. Teach them to work through their fear, not avoid it.
So let the kids run and scream while you’re working c**ts.
Let your horses learn to handle distractions in a safe, controlled environment.
Don’t coddle them.
You’re not helping them in the long run if you do.
