Things are moving: the third larger mini tree is built, with just one more to go. We're splicing lights, writing intro scripts, and compiling this year's songs. A show like this doesn't come together in a day, but it's coming together. And yes, we're letting Halloween have its time first. December 1 is right around the corner.

Everyone, meet Sugar. He's four feet tall, carries 350 lights, and he's our new presenter for this year's show. Fair warning: he does not share gumdrops. Come see him December 1.

Joy on Wendy Way 2026: the short version.

The show opens December 1st and runs every night through January 5th at 560 Wendy Way in Pulaski. Shows run nightly from 4:30 to 10:00 PM. Tune your radio to 97.1 FM for the music.

You pick the songs. Pull up joyonwendyway.remotefalcon.com on your phone and queue whatever you want to hear. Show info and updates are at www.joyonwendyway.com.

This year we finally hit 10,120 lights, with five new props and a lit-up driveway, which means we have officially run out of excuses and outlets.

A few things that keep the neighbors happy: headlights off, volume reasonable, no honking, and please don't block driveways. Stay out of the yard too, it's mostly extension cords and trip hazards held together by optimism. The show has flashing lights, so heads up if you're sensitive to that.

Donations are never expected, but if you want to chip in, Venmo . 75 percent goes to the Wisconsin Veterans Fishing Camp and the rest goes toward making next year bigger.

Follow the page for nightly updates, Wisconsin weather calls, and the occasional sign that we've lost control of this project. We'd love to hit 1,000 followers before the season wraps up.

Decorating season at Joy on Wendy Way has officially started. The grass has not gotten the memo that it's October in Wisconsin and is still growing like it has a personal grudge, so the heavy lifting has to wait until it quits. Once it does, we'll slowly start testing and setting up.

This year brings 5 new props and a driveway outline. That puts us at 10,120 lights, not counting projectors, which is a number we've been chasing for two years. We finally got there.

The website has been updated, and visitors can still pick the songs from their phones at joyonwendyway.remotefalcon.com. Opening night is December 1st. Until then, if you see us out in the yard with extension cords and questionable weather decisions, a wave is plenty.

Taking the week off from work, which around here apparently means trading one computer for another.

Setup has officially started on this year's show. Right now it is almost entirely programming, which is the least exciting part by a mile. No lights on the lawn yet, just me at a screen sequencing one song at a time and slowly losing track of what day it is.

Playlists are picked. No, I am not telling you what they are. Yes, I am enjoying that a little too much.

Here is the actual news though. We have a new website. www.joyonwendyway.com. Show info and updates all in one spot instead of buried in a Facebook post from three weeks ago that nobody can find. Go have a look, and check back as we go, because we will keep adding to it as setup moves along.

We are also working on a little surprise for this year. Not saying anything else yet because it has to actually work first, but if it pans out you will definitely hear about it.

Halloween decorations are already popping up across the street, which means it is officially time to start thinking about what comes next around here. Decorating season is closing in fast.

We have been kicking around some new additions for this year. A couple mini trees are joining the yard, two more singing props are in the works (leaning presenter style), and there is a decent chance the projectors make a comeback after a year off. We are also toying with outlining the driveway this time around, and if it all comes together we might finally crack 10,000 lights for the first time.

Beyond this season, we have got a two year upgrade plan brewing too. Better projectors are high on the list, along with new songs and generally more blinking, more flashing, and more excitement than your average front yard can handle.

Our hearts are with everyone in Menasha and the surrounding Fox Valley communities after yesterday’s devastating tornado.

Seeing homes and businesses torn apart is difficult to comprehend. These were not simply buildings—they were places where families gathered, children grew up, memories were made, and people built their lives. Some of our neighbors are now facing the painful reality of having lost nearly everything and needing to begin again.

We are deeply thankful that, as of the latest reports, there have been no confirmed fatalities. We continue to hope and pray that everyone is physically safe, especially as emergency crews continue searching damaged areas and checking on residents.

Right now, one of the most important ways we can help is by giving first responders, utility workers and emergency-management teams the room they need to work. Please stay away from damaged neighborhoods unless you live there or have been specifically requested to assist. Downed power lines, gas leaks, unstable buildings, fallen trees and blocked roads remain serious dangers. Well-intentioned sightseeing or uncoordinated volunteering can delay the people who are trying to save lives and restore essential services.

For those wanting to help:

• Follow the City of Menasha, local police, fire departments and Winnebago County Emergency Management for verified requests.
• Do not bring unsolicited donations directly into the affected neighborhoods. Wait for official collection locations and lists of needed items.
• Consider donating financially through established disaster-relief organizations actively serving the area. Monetary donations often allow relief workers to purchase exactly what families need without overwhelming shelters with unusable items.
• Check safely on elderly, disabled or vulnerable neighbors who may be without power or unable to get supplies.
• Be cautious of fraudulent fundraisers and verify where your donation is going before sending money.
• When organized cleanup efforts are announced, volunteer through the official coordinating organization rather than entering damaged property independently.

In the days ahead, the news cameras will eventually leave, but the families affected will still be sorting through debris, dealing with insurance, replacing belongings and trying to rebuild some sense of normal life. That is when continued kindness will matter most.

Property can be rebuilt and possessions can eventually be replaced, but that does not make the loss insignificant. To those who lost homes, businesses, vehicles, keepsakes or a lifetime of memories: you are not alone. Your neighbors across Northeast Wisconsin are thinking of you, praying for you and preparing to stand beside you through the long recovery ahead.

Please keep Menasha, the Fox Valley and every responding emergency worker in your thoughts. Let us help carefully, give generously and make sure our desire to help never gets in the way of those doing the dangerous work on the ground.
