Steel City Theatre Company, Pueblo

Steel City Theatre Company, Pueblo Steel City Theatre Company Mission: Bring theatre arts to life in the Pueblo community!

At Steel City Theatre Company, we transform lives one act at a time. Through unique, fun, challenging, entertaining, and professional theatrical productions and training, we recognize how the focus and discipline of performing arts sets people on the path to success. We work daily to engage and entertain our diverse Southern Colorado population, and serve as a telescope- looking out to faraway places and times, and a microscope- constantly looking at ourselves and our organization for ways we can improve.

Steel City Theatre Company (SCTC- originally Southern Colorado Theatre Company) was founded in 2001 by a mismatched group of fervent, theatre-loving actors, directors, and educators. Led by Cory Moosman, the original mission of SCTC was to produce interesting plays (mainly by American playwrights) that no one else in town was producing, pay actors and staff for their work, and eventually produce original works. The history of Steel City Theatre Company has had many highs and lows over the past 22 seasons- founders and company members leaving, winning awards, producing shows with little to no budget, constant struggles with finding and keeping performance space, and the triumphs and tribulations that come with a close-knit group of people working, fighting, and creating art together.

In January 2008, Steel City Theatre consisted of $3000, three Board Members, and a storage shed of set pieces. That year, Steel City Theatre started over and began to pick up the pieces of a company that had been run by volunteers and sheer force of will. After considering declining audience numbers and the needs in the community for more children’s programs, Steel City Theatre adopted a new mission statement, and began to produce high quality performing arts programs and experiences at a low-cost to the Pueblo community. In 2013, Steel City Theatre Company finally found its own space- formerly Patti's Restaurant in downtown Pueblo. This unique space offers a constantly changing seating arrangement, and full menus and drinks at shows. Explore our website to find out more about our camps, classes and upcoming productions!

We're still registering students for Steel City Theatre's Performing Arts Academy.

Why should you choose the Performing Arts Academy? We'll give you just a few of the reasons:

1. Students can take a three-hour "block" of classes, and take an acting, music and dance class, all on Fridays. You get three classes without coming back multiple evenings!

2. The price cannot be beat- $7.50 per class, and discounted to $6 per class when you take 3 or more.

3. Teachers follow a lesson plan (no making it up as they go!) that fits into a curriculum with a focus on mastering skills and meeting state and national standards.

4. Classes for every age and every level of experience!

Thank you everyone who came out and auditioned! We are so excited for both shows- everyone brought so much talent and great energy to the auditions and the decisions were very difficult. We would like to thank you again for all your time this week. A gentle reminder that there are many factors in casting, and schedule and age (real age and perceived age) are huge factors in deciding roles for a show this difficult.

Les Miserables first rehearsal: Tuesday, August 25, 6:30 pm at the Education Building

A reminder text will be sent, and please feel free to text us directly with questions, concerns or schedule updates (receiving any schedule changes/updates prior to the first rehearsal is very helpful).

The Santa Switch first rehearsal: Still TBD- you will receive a text with this info

This is a bit detailed, but we wanted to help people have as much piece of mind as possible about auditions!

A GENERAL NOTE: Many times people are just thinking the directors are sitting there, looking down on them, waiting for them to fall on their face. This could not be further from the truth! You want a role. The directors want to do a show. They WANT you to do well and be that person to fill the role. Also, sometimes, theatres seem like a closed room, but we work to cast new people all the time (In the 2025-2026 season, 13 leading roles were BRAND NEW faces, only meeting the people at auditions, and this does not include the secondary and ensemble roles).

Open Auditions for Les Miserables, The Santa Switch and Mrs. Claus, are Monday, August 17 and Tuesday, August 18 at 6:00 pm. Auditions will be at the Chief Theatre, 611 N. Main Street. You only need to come to one day of auditions.

What to Bring:
- Prepared song (style depends on what you are auditioning for) with a backing track/karaoke track on your phone or device
- If doing the dance call, clothing and shoes you can move in
- A water bottle is recommended

Upon Arrival:
- Sign in with the Audition Manager
- TIP: You don't have to come early (auditions begin at 6:00 pm), but we take auditioners back in the order they sign in, so if you sign in earlier, you leave earlier.
- Turn in paperwork to the Audition Manager. Only one audition form is needed per auditioner, but you do need to have the schedule form for every show you are auditioning for.
- TIP: Fill out your audition packet ahead of time. It can be super stressful to have to figure out all that stuff last minute.
- Wait in the lobby to be called by the Audition Manager
- The Audition Manager will call people to be "on deck" 2-3 people before them.

For the Audition:
- You will audition in the theatre in front of the directors
- When you walk into the theatre, the directors will help you hook your phone into the speaker.
- You do not need to slate (audition term for introducing yourself and your material), but also, feel free to slate (commonly your name and what show your material is from)!
- You can do your material in whatever order you choose.
- After the audition, you will head back to the lobby.

Dance Call:
- If you are auditioning for Christmas shows, you will wait until the individual auditions are done and come into the theatre with everyone else to learn a short dance.
- TIP: Don't stress about this too much. Have fun, listen and just try your best.

And if you have questions or would like more details, call our Box Office- 719-994-8298!

It's $5 ticket time once again, and it's a win/win situation. You get a $5 ticket to a show full of warped Norse gods, and our local food bank, Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado gets some much needed supplies for our community.

Here's how it works: select your tickets online, as you normally would, but make sure to book them all as "Adult" tickets (rather than "Student/Senior" tickets). At checkout, enter code: CAREANDSHARE26, and your tickets will be discounted to the $5 price! All you have to do is bring a canned good to the performance to donate to Care and Share!

Some specific items Care and Share could use: Canned Protein (tuna, beans, canned chicken), Peanut Butter, Packaged Meals (ex: Hamburger Helper), Pasta,
Pre-Packaged Snacks, Canned Fruits and Vegetables.

It's a night of hilarity, and with the donation, it breaks down to a really affordable evening out!
- 2 tickets @$5 each = $10
- 2 canned goods @$1.50 each = $3
- Nacho Special (2 drinks and 1 nachos) = $11

That brings us to a grand total of $24 for two people, plus, giving a donation to people in our community who really need it!

• Thursday, June 11, 7:30 pm
• Friday, June 12, 7:30 pm
• Saturday, June 13, 2:30 pm

We've had our fun with Greek Mythology, but now it's time to get funnier, weirder, and find out how crazy things can get with Loki, Thor, Fenrir, and Odin.

The cast takes on hundreds of characters to bring the biggest names in Norse Mythology to life. If you liked The Iliad, the Odyssey and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less, or The Play That Goes Wrong, this is right up your alley. It's an evening of comedy, and the chaos makes it even more fun!

Featuring a talented local cast of all ages, and tickets are only $15 for adults and $12 for students/seniors- this is a night out to do something different and have a great time. Perfect for a date night or a get together with friends (and we have some awesome bar and concessions deals!).
