Additional Insights from Lessons .comโ€™s ?s

Q) What types of students have you worked with?

A) Iโ€™ve tutored faculty, staff, administrators, & students alike at the University level in graphic & other computer programs as well as having taught missionaries language skills & developing spiritual strength in the MTC.

Not to mention that I've been a stay-at-home mother of 5 wonderful children with plenty of opportunities to volunteer in the classroom and serve in a religious capacity both for several years working with teens down to nursery ages over the past 20 years. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Q) How did you get started teaching?

A) A couple of my first few jobs just out of high school were teaching children. As a lifeguard I taught swimming lessons in NY where I graduated HS & also as an ice-skating instructor for the city of Provo out by the lake before they had the Peaks Arena!

Q) What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

A) Make sure that regardless of their skill or success as a professional artist, they are able to adapt to the student's needs & successfully communicate in a way that the understanding of the subject matter is solid, the student is actively involved & there is opportunity for open and clear discussion including constructive criticism that builds both technical skill as well as confidence. Meeting the individual on their level is essential for progress.

Q) What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

A) Some examples would include:

-Why do I want to 'do art'? What (about it) motivates me?

-What kinds of mediums am I drawn to?

- How will this enrich my life? Ie. Am I looking to develop my talent for my own enjoyment, a hobby, side-hustle or career?

-How will I measure my progress?

-Will I be pleased with the journey or just getting to the destination? (Learning vs skill-level.)

-Am I willing to give myself leaniency with my learning curve & yet still be able to step back & see progress / struggles in ways that will be motivating & productive?

A) In the BYU Design Department's Illustration BFA program, I developed & exercised my own foundational art skills. I also participate in ongoing portrait & figure sessions as a form of continuing education and as a support to my other artistic works.

Q) What do you enjoy about the work you do?

A) When the creative light goes on, it's a wonderful thing to see! Building the knowledge and skill to support that artistic vision is such a rewarding endeavor.

Q) How does your service stand out?

A) Art at Any Age!
Whether well into your advanced years, or just at the start of a lifetime of learning, artistic endeavors are a rewarding experience. Come draw & paint with me!

Understanding the foundations & basic concepts of structure, form, light, value, color, etc... will provide the technical insight to your expressive side's desire to create meaningful artwork.

For the younger generations:
Introducing art to children at a younger age will help them develop confidence in their skill levels and will also become part of their real world experience in a tangible way.

For those on into their adulthood:
Basic concepts to master will create a structural foundation for each individual to build upon. These lessons will specifically focus on traditional fine art concepts in regards to drawing & painting the human figure. Fundamentals usually reserved for University-level study, yet minor friendly.

Q) What is your typical process for working with a new student?

A) Learning about the student's experience and interests will establish an understanding from which we can work in order to develop the student's skills.
