We were honored to welcome Congressman Gabe Amo to the AAPI History Museum. We had a meaningful conversation about the importance of preserving, teaching, and making visible the histories that have too often been left out of public memory.

The timing felt especially meaningful. Rep. Judy Chu has introduced a congressional resolution seeking to recognize the 1885 Rock Springs Chinese Massacre, one of the deadliest acts of anti-Chinese violence in U.S. history.

This is why museums like ours matter. AAPI history is American history. It includes stories of labor, migration, exclusion, violence, resilience, and the ongoing work of remembrance.

We are grateful for Congressman Amo’s visit, his thoughtful engagement, and his personal donation in support of our work. We also appreciate Rep. Judy Chu’s leadership in helping bring long-erased AAPI history into public memory.

AAPI Heritage Month is not over — and neither is the work.

We are grateful that GBH’s Under the Radar featured the AAPI History Museum in a thoughtful article and podcast conversation with Callie Crossley and Dr. Jason Chang of the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Chang’s words remind us why this work matters: “A community can disappear in two generations.”

The AAPI History Museum exists to preserve, teach, and share the stories that have too often been overlooked — stories of migration, identity, activism, solidarity, belonging, and hope.

Please note our shortened museum hours this week.

The AAPI History Museum will close early at 2:00 PM on Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15, 2026.

We will return to our regular Saturday hours on Saturday, May 16, from 12:00–4:00 PM. We are also excited to welcome our henna artist back to the museum. Henna will be offered to patrons with admission tickets during Saturday museum hours.

SPECIAL MUSEUM HOURS NOTICE

The AAPI History Museum will close early at 2:30 PM on Friday, May 1st. The museum will be closed on Saturday, May 2nd for our AAPI Heritage Month kick-off event at the RWU Sailing Center.

On Friday, our museum will close early so that our volunteers can attend the opening reception of the new exhibit Rhode Island & the Revolution: Liberty, Struggle, Legacy in the Lower-Level Gallery at the Rhode Island State House at 3 PM.

On Saturday, our museum will close for our official RI 250 & AAPI Heritage Month kick-off event at the RWU Sailing Center from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM. We invite you to join us at this event!

Come explore Grace Lee Boggs’ legacy, her ties to fellow revolutionaries, and how Asian American women leaders continue her impact, while reflecting on Rhode Island’s AAPI communities as part of America with RI 250.

This will be followed by a reception and an interactive flamenco performance.

We will resume regular hours and operations at our Providence location on Tuesday, May 5th.

The museum will be open tomorrow, April 11th, from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., and we would love to welcome you during that time.

At the AAPI History Museum, we believe young people are not just the future, they are already actively shaping how our histories, identities, and communities are understood. Creating space for these voices is at the heart of our mission. It’s how we preserve culture, elevate lived experiences, and ensure AAPI stories are seen, heard, and valued.

We’re proud to announce the winners of our AAPI Youth Art & Writing Competition. After thoughtful deliberation, our judges selected an exceptional group of young writers and artists whose work moved, challenged, and inspired us through its creativity, insight, and emotional depth.

This is why the AAPI History Museum matters. Because when young people are given a platform, they don’t just participate in culture, they shape it.

These are the voices to watch. And more importantly, the voices to listen to.

The AAPI History Museum was founded with a simple but powerful mission: to preserve, document, and share the stories of Asian American and Pacific Islander communities that have long been missing from mainstream narratives. In just one year, that mission has grown into a national milestone.

From the launch of the AAPI Mobile Museum to the opening of the country’s first museum dedicated entirely to AAPI history, this inaugural year has been defined by community engagement, education, and powerful storytelling across generations.

As we celebrate this moment, we also look ahead to our First Anniversary Celebration at Brown Faculty Club, where leaders, scholars, and advocates will gather to reflect on the impact of this work and the future of AAPI history in America.
