Our last, but certainly not least performer for the Songwriting Showcase is Arielle Martinez-Cohen! Arielle Martinez Cohen is a singer-songwriter from Los Angeles, studying Music and Psychology at Brown.
She has worked in the music business since she was 9, singing backup vocals for artists like Imagine Dragons, Frank Ocean, Macklemore, Foster the People, and Linda Perry. She also appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, Conan O’Brien, and The Talk.
Arielle started writing songs when she was 13. Her song, “Two Minutes to Midnight” was used by The Bulletin in their announcement of the Doomsday clock in January 2018. In March 2018, Arielle sang her song, Why, at the March for our Lives in LA. She was then part of the campaign put on by Instagram and Good Morning America. Around the same time, Arielle performed at the first ever Global Youth Climate March in Washington, DC. She later became Partnerships Director and then Music Director for youth-led climate justice org, Zero Hour.
Arielle’s debut album, Shoelaces, is set to drop on Friday, December 8th, on all streaming platforms. It features themes of grief, mental health, growing pains, and political misinformation.
