Meet nature’s tiny recyclers - the endangered American burying beetle! While Rhode Island’s state insect is too rare to spot on a regular stroll, you can get a closer look at our larger-than-life animatronic version on the Bug’s World trail. Roger Williams Park Zoo has been at the forefront of conserving this species for nearly 30 years, protecting the vital role they play in bringing nutrients back into our soil.

Head over to A Bug's World to see and learn about over 60 giant insects in action. Gab your tickets today at rwpzoo.org/bugs for a big adventure from a small point of view! 🪲✨

It's ! Whether you’re a human breathing landside or a Humboldt penguin riding the currents, a healthy ocean is our ultimate shared life support system. From regulating our climate to providing food, the ocean sustains us all. 🐟🐧

Every drop of water connects us, and every single action matters. Today, let’s remember that ocean conservation isn’t just about saving wildlife, it’s about protecting the planet we all call home. 💙

Bittersweet red panda update ❤️ If you’ve visited us recently, you might have noticed our red panda kits are growing up fast as they are approaching their first birthday! Both of our kits, Katara and Sokka, are part of vital breeding recommendations from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan (SSP).

Katara has already moved to her new Zoo, and is settling in well. We will be sure to share the news once her new facility is ready to announce her arrival. Sokka will be moving to his new facility in the fall, updates to come soon. While we will miss them, these moves are a huge milestone. By creating their own families, they are playing a crucial role in conservation breeding to ensure a bright future for this endangered species.

Join us in wishing them well on their new journeys!

P.S. Mom Zan and dad Kendji will remain at our Zoo. They are also a breeding pair, and we hope they will have more kits in the future!

Sniff, sniff 🐽

The nose knows! Red river hogs have an incredible sense of smell and long, muscular snouts that act like shovels. Using thousands of scent receptors and the ability to feel vibrations in the ground, they can easily sniff and dig out hidden treats beneath the soil.
