The penguin chicks have made their public debut! 🐧

Now that they have the proper equipment (adult feathers) and skills to swim in the big pool they joined the rest of the waddle outdoors. You can tell them apart by their lighter greyish feathers, the white chest that does not yet have the black band, and the lack of the pink facial patches.

Come see them out and about exploring their habitat and swimming in the big pool! 🤍

Enrichment walks are all about new sights, smells, and friends! 🫶🏼 Our donkeys paid a visit to the Watusi cattle, and it was absolutely adorable how interested and curious they were about each other. These enrichment walks help keep minds sharp and build confidence as they explore new spaces!

Thanks to our keepers for going above and beyond to enrich the lives of all of our animals. 💙

We’re thrilled to share an exciting milestone! Four baby box turtles, hatched here at the Zoo from local turtles confiscated by DEM, have been released back into the wild. As a vulnerable RI native species, this is an incredible achievement for our conservation team and our amazing partners at Rhode Island Fish & Wildlife. Prior to release, each turtle underwent disease testing and received a unique identification tag.

While it’s wonderful to see these vulnerable reptiles return home, please remember that it is illegal to possess native reptiles or translocate wildlife without a permit in RI. If you or someone you know has a pet that needs to be rehomed or encounters wildlife in need, always contact a licensed rehabber like the Wildlife Clinic of RI or DEM's Division of Fish and Wildlife.
