Join us on tonight at 6 PM at the WaterFire Arts Center for the rescheCollector’s Night, as part of the “NetWorks Rhode Island and the Chazan Collection” exhibition. This event will feature Candita Clayton, Barnaby Evans, Tripp Evans, and Victoria Veh, in a conversation reflecting on the importance of art collecting, investing in artists, and nurturing our community.

In the wake of Dr. Joseph A. Chazan’s recent passing, this evening will honor his profound impact on the Rhode Island arts community. Dr. Chazan’s unwavering support for artists and his dedication to fostering creativity have left a lasting legacy. Our panelists will discuss the magnitude of his contributions, his vision for the arts, and the importance of continuing to support and invest in the cultural landscape he helped shape.

We invite you to join us in celebrating Dr. Chazan’s extraordinary life and legacy and explore the powerful connections between art, community, and patronage.

This event will take place amidst the artwork of the exhibition, NetWorks Rhode Island and the Chazan Collection: A Half-Century of RI Patronage.

"Dr. Joseph Chazan, like the character Billy Pilgrim in the novel Slaughterhouse-Five, is unstuck in time. The phenomenon is localized in a new graphic novel Chazan! Unfiltered, which takes a here-there-and-back-again approach to his personal and professional life story.

"Rhode Island’s own Dr. Chazan is a nephrologist (in layman’s terms, a kidney doctor), and while the “unfiltered” in the title suggests frank disclosures in its pages, it’s more of a kidney pun. The doctor’s life — at least in comic strip form — is less about shocking revelations and more about his lifetime effort to help people and, in the process, lead a rich and well-rounded life."

Great article about the new graphic novel "Chazan! Unfiltered" in Motif Magazine. Read more - https://motifri.com/chazan-unfiltered/

Chazan! Unfiltered (Never Enough Books, 2020), by Lenny Schwartz (story) and Erminio Pinque (art), will be available in October.

An opening reception for Divine Providence: New paintings by Umberto Crenca will be held downtown on Westminster Street this Thursday. I can't think of anyone with more to show for the quarantine year than Mr. Crenca. (I almost learned French.) I can't remember when the first one showed up, but whenever one of these gems would appear in my feed, I would pause and smile. [ 212 more words ]
