The Edward Mitchell Bannister Art Gallery is a Contemporary Art Gallery on the Rhode Island College campus.

It has been in continuous operation since 1978. 2018 Marks the 40th Anniversary of the Edward Mitchell Bannister Gallery’s first opening.

Friends and Acquaintances, Contemporary Ceramics Collection of Craig and Martha Bachman

Opening reception: Thursday, October 8th, 4-7 PM

Opening this Thursday is an exhibition of the private collection of Craig and Martha Bachman that highlights the diversity, creativity, and ongoing evolution of contemporary ceramics over the past 50 years. Craig Bachman is a Professor of Art at Rhode Island College and the head of the Ceramics program within the Art Department.

This is the last week to see the RhodeIslandCollege 3-D Faculty Exhibition in Bannister Gallery! We are open 12-8 PM through Friday, October 2.

Opening next Thursday, October 8, is Friends and Acquaintances, Contemporary Ceramics Collection of Craig and Martha Bachman, an exhibition that highlights the diversity, creativity, and ongoing evolution of contemporary ceramics over the past 50 years. 2026 Rhode Island College 3-D Faculty Exhibition

Bannister Gallery opens the 2026-2027 exhibition schedule with our Annual Faculty Exhibition, which offers an opportunity for the community to experience first-hand the artistic talent that is in residence RhodeIslandCollege . These full-time and adjunct faculty artists are integral to the current aesthetic and conceptual dialogues present in our studio art department. Their practices include research-based and interdisciplinary methods that are at the core of contemporary art. RIC’s faculty artists exhibit widely and receive prestigious awards, grants, fellowships, and residencies. As a result, they encourage students by their example to think across boundaries.

If you’re on the Gallery Night tour or if you stop in around 7:15 PM, you will also see a special traditional Cambodian dance performance from .20 , a brand new and a long-time student employee from Bannister Gallery. Don’t miss out!

Our Annual Graduating Art Students’ Exhibition is on view for another week! We are open today until 8 pm and will be open tomorrow, SATURDAY, MAY 16, with special Commencement hours from 12-4 PM. Seniors can stop by with their families to take pictures in their caps and gowns, and anyone else can visit to see the wonderful artwork by our talented students.

You can hop on the 6:30 PM tour from the to visit Bannister Gallery and see a special traditional Cambodian dance performance by Norin Samraing (.20 ), a graduating senior from RIC and a long-time Bannister Gallery student employee. The performance will take place around 7:15 PM if you would like to stop by on your own and see the event!
