Turns out plein-air is quite difficult when you can't see what you're doing.... Nonetheless this was an amazing night painting during not only the beautiful event that is waterfire but also under the super blue moon 🌚

I met some amazing people, had insightful conversations, and listened to some incredible music. This night was a vibe, and a good one at that... I can't wait to do this again 💕

Another work in progress! I shared an earlier version of this concept a few weeks ago and since then I have re-drawn it 3 times 🫠

I can't help but be deep in my emotions when I work on this one... It was one of those images that burned its way into my mind and has refused to leave. Honestly I think the process of finishing this drawing will be an avenue of healing and I'm so excited to see how it changes/develops as time goes on

Meet this year's Juror for The Seventh Annual Art of Darkness:

The juror for this year's event is Sydney Darrow, the First Place Winner of The Art of Darkness 2022.

Sydney Darrow is a Rhode Island based artist specializing in Realism, Abstract Art, and most often a combination of the two styles. She works with a variety of mediums to create art that explores themes of duality, the human experience, and nature.

This is the underpainting for my newest favorite painting 💕 Obviously this little work in progress is special to me as it is a portrait of Ophelia (Aka Love Incarnate)

If anyone remembers my failed attempt at sketching a portrait of her everyday for the first year of her life... I'll tell you this is the tempered version of that exercise 😅 I plan on making a small painting of her around her birthday each year

I can't wait to start layering in the color on this one and I'm hoping it won't take more than a few weeks to finish so stay tuned!

My first time working with acrylics in years....

I used to use exclusively acrylics when I first started painting and switched to oils a few years ago. For some reason I always had the (false) idea that acrylics were easier to work with than oils. I now know that what is easiest to work with is just what you are the most practiced in.

All of that is to say I struggled with this painting but I am so happy with how it came out! I was going for a more messy and free style than my usual work, having the face be the only really refined part of the painting. This is a style I want to continue practicing in the future and this was the first time I was able to catch a glimpse of it
