Happy Birthday to artist, Faith Ringgold!

Faith Ringgold (October 8, 1930–April 12, 2024) was an American artist, author, and activist best known for her colorful story quilts, which combine painting, fabric, and written narratives. Born in Harlem, New York, she explored Black identity, family, racism, and women’s experiences through her art.
Her beloved children’s book Tar Beach grew from one of her story quilts and celebrates a young girl’s dreams of freedom. Ringgold also challenged museums to include more Black artists and women, leaving a lasting mark on American art.
