Potteries Bottle Ovens are distinctive bottle-shaped brick kilns once used to fire pottery in Stoke-on-Trent, England—an area famous for its ceramics industry. 🏺🔥 Their tall, bottle-like structures helped control the intense heat needed to fire pottery. Thousands once filled the city’s skyline, but only a small number survive today as historic reminders of Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery heritage.

Happy Birthday to artist, Man Ray!

Man Ray (1890–1976) was an American artist and photographer best known for his work with the Dada and Surrealist movements. Born Emmanuel Radnitzky in Philadelphia, he spent much of his career in Paris, where he worked alongside artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Salvador Dalí.

Man Ray loved experimenting with photography and became famous for his “rayographs”—images made by placing objects directly onto photographic paper and exposing them to light, without using a camera. He also created paintings, sculptures, films, and unusual objects. His playful, experimental approach helped transform photography into an important form of modern art.

Happy Birthday to artist, Aubrey Beardsley!

Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898) was an English illustrator known for his bold, black-and-white drawings and dramatic, decorative style. Influenced by Japanese art and the Art Nouveau movement, his work often featured elegant figures, flowing lines, and unusual, sometimes controversial imagery. Beardsley became famous for his illustrations of Salome by Oscar Wilde. Although he died of tuberculosis at only 25 years old, his distinctive style had a lasting influence on illustration, graphic design, and Art Nouveau.
