Band/Choir Trip to New Orleans: Day 4

Sunday was our final day in The Big Easy. We started off with a visit to Loyola University New Orleans College of Music and Media, where we received two clinics from their music faculty. The choir performed for and rehearsed with Dr. Meg Frazier, Director of Choral Activities, while the band did the same with Dr. Gordon Towell, Area Coordinator of Jazz Studies. We are incredibly grateful for their time.

Following our lunch break, students had the opportunity to visit three museums around the city (The Presbytère, The Cabildo, and the New Orleans Museum of Art) featuring exhibits on Marquis de Lafayette, Hurricane Katrina, and wire sculptor Hayward Oubre. We ate dinner and enjoyed one last hurrah in Jackson Square, then began driving home. We're ready to be back!... but not thrilled about the weather.

Band/Choir Trip to New Orleans: Day 3

Saturday began with an early morning swamp tour, where students got to see lots of Louisiana wildlife (especially gators... of all sizes!). After lunch in the French Market, choir students gave a performance in the St. Louis Cathedral, followed by a visit to the Audubon Aquarium, a walk around the mall, and a cajun dinner at Mulate's (featuring some impromptu washboard performances).

Band/Choir Trip to New Orleans: Day 1

After a long day (and night) of driving on Wednesday, we hit the ground running! Yesterday took us to the Audubon Zoo, Mardi Gras World, the New Orleans Jazz Museum (where one of Louis Armstrong's first cornets was on display), and the historic Preservation Hall, where we saw a performance from the Preservation All-Stars jazz band. We're looking forward to another great day today.
