Need to finish up some detail work on the leaves at the bottom of the page but otherwise I think I’m about done with this little painting. It’s been about 9 months since I pulled out my watercolor supplies, so I was struggling a little with “muscle memory”. But it felt really good to play with my supplies, and have several other reference photos waiting for their turn to be painted. 🥰

I recently purchased a large collection (3 huge cardboard boxes full!) of cigar boxes and tins from Marketplace. In the bottom of one of the big boxes were several little cases of small tins. Since I’m in the mood for spring and warmer weather, I decided to try my hand at making a few of them pretty. These are a couple of my first attempts. If you know me, you know I have a bit of an obsession with vintage containers, lol. I can’t always find cool old boxes and tins, so I like to take nondescript modern containers and give them the look I adore. I’d love to know what you think about these tins.

I’ve been having some fun playing in my studio, indulging my excitement for warmer weather by creating a reproduction vintage seed box. I had seen some on Etsy and eBay starting at $400!!! So of course, I decided to make my own. I’m thinking these could be nice to take to some spring and summer craft shows this year. It’s a fairly labor intensive project, but I really love it. I’d love to get your opinion on this cute little box. 💕

I just couldn’t make myself like how this reproduction antique seed box was shaping up (image #3) So I sanded the floral image back, added some creamy colored milk paint and when that was dry, used a different image for the top of the box. I have some plans for the inside of the lid, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

This project was a great learning experience. There are a few things I would do differently if I were to do it over again. But all in all, I’m really happy my new portraits.
