Join us Friday, October 9, from 10 AM to 12 PM in the Education Center Auditorium to see their projects, hear their findings, and ask questions as they present their research in a science fair-style format.

What a beautiful day of music, community, and tradition!

We were proud to bring Prescott’s folk music heritage back to life at the Annual Folk Music Festival at Sharlot Hall Museum. Since 1980, this festival has been a gathering place for musicians, dancers, families, and friends—and this year, we were grateful to carry that tradition forward.

Thank you to everyone who came out, shared in the music, danced, listened, volunteered, performed, and helped make the day so special. Together, we celebrated the songs and stories that connect us, welcomed old and new friends, and reminded ourselves of the power of community.

We’re so glad we brought the festival back—and even more grateful that you were there to be part of it. Here’s to keeping the music playing and the tradition growing for years to come! 🎻🌻

It was an amazing day — not only for the music, but for the Prescott community.

Families played with their children, people kicked off their shoes and laid in the grass, and music filled the campus. Musicians gathered together to play old sounds, share songs and traditions, and create some new ones along the way. It was a beautiful reminder of what happens when people come together to make something — and make it together.

The campus felt like what it was always meant to be: a museum for everybody.

Just like Prescott is Everyone’s Hometown, Sharlot Hall Museum is everyone’s museum.

We’ll have more thank-yous to come, but for now — thank you to the artists, sponsors, vendors, volunteers, staff, and everyone who helped make the return of the Folk Festival such a success.

What a wonderful day for music, community, and the return of a beloved tradition. Thank you for being part of it.

One week away — it’s time to get into the spooky season!

Author Series – Patrick Whitehurst
Saturday, October 10 | 1–3 PM

This Halloween season, explore a stranger, darker side of Arizona with author Patrick Whitehurst at Sharlot Hall Museum.

Go beyond Arizona’s beautiful vistas and desert landscapes and discover tales of the odd, mysterious, and unexplained. From a legendary cryptid said to stalk the Grand Canyon to a purported alien abduction that inspired a feature film, strange happenings and weird occurrences have been recorded across the state.

Whitehurst is the author of several works of fiction and nonfiction, including "Monterey Noir" and "Murder and Mayhem in Tucson." With a background as a news reporter on the crime beat, he brings a keen eye for detail to stories of dark history, gritty crime, Arizona legends, and the unexplained.

Join us Saturday, October 10, from 1–3 PM for this special Halloween-season program and discover some of Arizona’s most unusual and unsettling stories.

Tickets are available in the Events section of our website or on the Events page here on Facebook.

Tomorrow is show time!

The 42nd Annual Folk Music Festival returns to Sharlot Hall Museum on Saturday, October 3, and we are ready to make some history.

Tomorrow, we continue that tradition while creating a little history of our own.

Gates open at 9 AM
Music begins at 10 AM
Event ends at 5 PM

With 50+ acts across four stages, there will be music, dancing, workshops, jam circles, and plenty of opportunities to join in the celebration.

If you like singing, you won’t want to miss this weekend’s 42nd Annual Folk Music Festival at Sharlot Hall Museum!

But first, take a step back in time with this week’s Days Past and learn about Theodore W. “T.W.” Otis, Prescott’s “Psalm Singing Postmaster.”

T.W. arrived in Prescott in 1874, opened the Variety Store on the Courthouse Plaza, and was appointed Prescott’s Postmaster by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1875. He and his wife, Pamela, became deeply involved in Prescott’s community, church, education, and charitable work.

T.W. proudly recalled that he was known throughout Arizona as the “Psalm singing Postmaster of Prescott.” So, if music was part of T.W.’s Prescott, it’s certainly fitting that Sharlot Hall Museum is once again celebrating Prescott’s rich musical heritage!
