Capture the beauty of the Southwest in watercolor with award-winning artist Chris Sommerfelt! 🌵🎨☀️

Join us for Paint a Southwest Landscape in Watercolor on June 13, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the Mountain Artists Guild.

This workshop is designed for confident beginners to intermediate watercolor artists who want to better understand how to paint the stunning landscapes of the Southwest — from expansive skies and glowing desert colors to the intense sunlight that makes our region so unique.

Chris will guide students through the importance of planning a landscape painting, including value studies, composition, color temperature, and intensity to create beautiful light-filled paintings. Students will watch demonstrations and then have the opportunity to paint with guidance throughout the day.

ABOUT CHRIS:
Chris Sommerfelt is an award-winning watercolorist with over 35 years of painting experience and more than 25 years of teaching experience. With a background in commercial art and graphic design, Chris has served as a mentor, judge, demonstrator, and active arts community leader in both Wisconsin and Arizona. She has been a valued member of the Mountain Artists Guild since moving to Prescott Valley seven years ago.

We’re excited to offer FREE art classes for Veterans at any skill level! Whether you’re new to art or have some experience, these sessions are designed to help you explore new artistic skills, tap into your creativity, and connect with fellow Veterans in a supportive and welcoming environment.
🗓 When: 1st & 3rd Thursday, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
📍 Where: Mountain Artists Guild, 228 N. Alarcon St., Prescott, AZ
✅ Classes are completely FREE, and while registration isn’t required, it helps with planning if you sign up. Veterans are also welcome to bring a guest—spouse, child, or friend—just register them as a “secondary registrant."

What an incredible year it has been so far at the Mountain Artists Guild! 🎨❤️

As we head into the second half of the year, we are taking a moment to celebrate all that we have accomplished together. We are thrilled to have welcomed 40 new and returning members to our Guild this year, a testament to the strength and vibrancy of our artistic community.

May was especially exciting, with a successful Mother's Day Fine Art & Wine Festival and a wonderful collaboration with the Phippen Museum through our MAG and Youth Art booths at the Courthouse Plaza Art Show. We also hosted a highly successful Youth Art Show, partnering with our local high schools, Yavapai College, and Northern Arizona University to showcase the incredible talent of young artists in our community. These partnerships help inspire the next generation of creatives while strengthening the connection between artists of all ages.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our artists, members, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters. Together, our volunteers have already contributed more than 360 hours of service just for the month of May, an incredible gift of time, talent, and heart. Your commitment helps us provide exhibitions, classes, youth programs, veterans art programs, festivals, and so much more.

Thank you for believing in the power of art and community. We are excited for everything still to come in 2026 and can't wait to continue growing, creating, and celebrating with all of you.
