What's The Mousetrap?

It's a murder mystery by Agatha Christie that holds the record for longest-running play of all time—its London West End production has been running continuously since 1952 and is a couple of years past its 30,000 performance milestone.

Seven suspects. One detective. Three blind mice.

A murder committed in London is all over the radio news, and when Detective Sergeant Trotter arrives at Monskwell Manor, the proprietors and guests are shocked to learn that the killer is among them and bent on claiming two more victims. Can you solve the case? Make sure to be there when the trap snaps shut!

Prescott Valley Performing Arts is thrilled to announce our play lineup for the rest of 2026!

It's going be a spectacular season of world-class community theater at our little hometown playhouse, and we'd love to have you in the audience, on stage, or helping out behind the scenes.

The Mousetrap has already been cast and is well into the rehearsal process (and it's gonna be amazing!), and we'll still need stagehands and ushers. Keep an eye out here for audition info for The Outsiders, The Glass Menagerie, and The Rocky Horror Show, coming soon!

If you're interested in helping out with set construction, costuming, stage managing, or any of the other jobs that add up to exciting community theater, we want you on board. There is a place for you in our community, and we'd love to meet you!

Come out on April 2nd or 3rd at 6:30pm (Prescott Valley Performing Arts) to audition for The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie, directed by Jenna Marie Miles! Please prepare a 1-2 minute monologue, and be prepared to demonstrate an English accent and do some cold reading from the script.

The Mousetrap is the longest running play in the world, creeping up on its 75th year in London's West End.

After a local woman is murdered, the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm. It soon becomes clear that the killer is among them, and the seven strangers grow increasingly suspicious of one another. A police detective, arriving on skis, interrogates the suspects: the newlyweds running the house; a spinster with a curious background; an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef; a retired Army major; a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift; and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate.

The script calls for 5 men and 3 women of various ages.

Characters:
MOLLIE RALSTON – A newlywed who has inherited Monkswell Manor and has opened it as a guesthouse with her husband. A hospitable and warm, if slightly naive, hostess and cook.

GILES RALSTON – The more cautious proprietor of Monkswell Manor. Supportive of his wife, but less thrilled to run a guesthouse. A traditional gentleman who’s quick to judge his guests.

CHRISTOPHER WREN – A young architect with a flamboyant and often inappropriate sense of humor. His energetic conversation can appear both lighthearted and sinister.

MRS. BOYLE – A retiree whose acerbic tone makes her a challenging guest. Strong-willed and uncompromising, with high expectations. Pleased only when expressing disappointment.

MAJOR METCALF – An affable guest who is willing to help his hosts cope with the consequences of the snowstorm. Retired from the army, steady and calm in the face of conflict.

MISS CASEWELL – A modern and somewhat aloof young woman travelling on business. Unwilling to discuss private matters and disinterested in the opinion of her fellow guests.

MR. PARAVICINI – A roguish gentleman who is not forthcoming about his reasons for being there. Delights in the guests’ uncertainty and pays particular attention to his hostess, Mollie.

DETECTIVE SGT. TROTTER – The young detective assigned to reach Monkswell Manor and report on the situation as it unfolds. Determined and authoritative in his pursuit of the truth.

See you there!
