Proud to stand in solidarity with our colleagues pushing for living wages for all employees. Informational picketing last week was a blast! 💕

Second photo: our Emily talking data visualization (surprise, surprise 😆) of average New York State weekly earnings for employees with high school degrees ($880/week, as per the NYS Department of Labor) verses Vassar entry-level jobs ($694/week). Institutions of higher education should be paying their workers at least as much as the average high school graduate, wouldn’t you think?

The best part of seeing this year-long project displayed for the first time was having the opportunity to chat with some of the makers from libraries around the region. Thank you! ❤️ Get • We were delighted at the opportunity to support our two Tempestry project knitters at the Mohonk Mountain House yesterday, as part of the Mid-Hudson Libraries Tempestry Collection Gala! 🧵

Each knitter chose a year to knit based on temperature data recorded at the Mohonk Preserve whose records date back to 1895. Each knitter had the opportunity to choose a year that holds special significance for them. Two of our patrons, Nancy and Jody each completed a whole year worth of temperature recordings for the collection.

It is an amazing piece of work to see our changing climate displayed by year all in one place. Be sure to check out the travelling collection when it comes to a library near you!

Just finished setting up this Tempestry exhibit at Mohonk Mountain House. It was made by a hundred volunteer knitters organized through the Mid Hudson Library System, and depicts climate data from 1895-2024 for the mid Hudson Valley. Data comes from Mohonk Preserve by way of NOAA, where national and international climate & weather data continues (for now) to be available to the public.

"For Alex Jeffrey Pretti"
Murdered by I.C.E. January 24, 2026
by Amanda Gorman

We wake with
no words, just woe
& wound. Our own country shoot
ing us in the back is not just brutal
ity; it’s jarring betrayal; not enforcement,
but ex*****on. A message: Love your people & you
will die. Yet our greatest threat isn’t the outsiders
among us, but those among us who never look
within. Fear not the those without papers, but those
without conscience. Know that to care intensively,
united, is to carry both pain-dark horror for today
& a profound, daring hope for tomorrow. We can feel
we have nothing to give, & still belove this world wait
ing, trembling to change. If we cannot find words, may
we find the will; if we ever lose hope, may we never lose our
humanity. The only undying thing is mercy, the courage to open
ourselves like doors, hug our neighbor,
& save one more bright, impossible life.
