A journey of Collage & Sculptural Mix Media by Elizabeth Arnold and Antonio Ingenito.
Antonio Ingenito is a sculptural mixed-media artist, collage artist, and metal sculptor whose work is rooted in transformation, identity, community, and place. Working in Dutchess County in New York’s Hudson Valley, Ingenito brings together sculpture, collage, found materials, reclaimed objects, scrap metal, paper, wood, and fragments of everyday life.
His work is deeply influenced by the visual language and energy of New York City street art. The rawness, spontaneity, layering, and discovery found on city streets continue to inform the way he approaches material and space. For Ingenito, art does not have to begin with traditional materials or remain confined to traditional spaces. It can emerge from what has been overlooked, discarded, weathered, broken, or forgotten.
That philosophy is central to Made of Us, a body of work represented within This Is Us that considers how people, families, communities, and cultures are assembled from countless fragments.
Much like his collages and sculptures, people are made from pieces—memories, relationships, traditions, struggles, influences, places, histories, and moments accumulated over time. In Ingenito’s work, separate materials retain evidence of where they came from while becoming part of something entirely new.
His Italian-American heritage forms another important thread throughout his practice. Family, tradition, craftsmanship, resourcefulness, cultural inheritance, and the transmission of identity between generations provide an emotional foundation for his work. His heritage, his connection to New York City, and his life in the Hudson Valley come together to create a visual language that is both intensely personal and broadly recognizable.
