Niawenkowa to Montana Adams as well as everyone that came out for the show on Monday evening. Montana delivered a powerful performance that embodied the frustrations experienced living in Akwesasne and dealing with the imposed borders through our land.

SUNY Potsdam is participating in the today to honor Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, And Two-Spirit People. These individuals face disproportionately high rates of violent crime.

Come meet me in front of Barrington Student Union for a sand kit to spread in the cracks around campus to visually represent these individuals who have fallen through the cracks of the justice system, healthcare, and society. They are not forgotten.

MCA AMICUS BRIEF: WHAT THIS MEANS FOR AKWESASRÓ:NON
The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne (MCA) has filed brief as amicus curiae in the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York involving the rights of Akwesasró:non born in Canada.

What this means:
MCA has taken action to support the rights of Akwesasró:non born in Canada in an ongoing U.S. court case.

What’s happening:
A U.S. policy is being challenged that could require Akwesasró:non born in Canada to get immigration documents, like a “green card,” to access federal student financial aid.

What MCA is saying:
MCA supports the position that Akwesasró:non have a long-recognized right to cross the U.S.-Canada border freely without needing immigration paperwork.

What this means for the community:
• Your cross-border rights are being defended.
• MCA is working to prevent new requirements that could limit those rights.
• The goal is to ensure Akwesasró:non can continue accessing opportunities, like education, without added barriers.

MCA filed this brief to make sure the court understands and respects these longstanding rights.

📢 Calling all Indigenous Artists and Makers!

The SUNY Potsdam Native American Program is seeking artists to feature in this spring's LoKo Arts Festival (running April 29 to May 3). We want to highlight Indigenous creativity and bring our culture to the center of campus.

We are open to all mediums; including beadwork, traditional crafting, painting, digital art, photography, music, and performance.

Please note that university policy does not allow direct vending or selling at this event. However, all selected artists will receive an honorarium for their time! We will also fully cover the cost of all supplies and materials needed for you to showcase your work or host a demonstration.

Interested in participating? Send an email to [email protected]
Please include a brief description of your art and a few examples of your work.
