As we prepare for our Skills Nights for the Competition Team next week, you may be wondering what benefits your child will get from being on a competitive dance team. Let us tell you!
1) Your dancer will get the opportunity to perform and show off their talents many times throughout the year instead of just once at the end of the year dance recital.
2) They will learn how to take critiques with grace and apply them to learn and become better dancers while learning that their value as dancers and as humans do not come from their scores.
3) Our competition team travels to other cities to compete. We often make friends from other studios and we get to represent the city of Potlatch on these big stages. Our team also loves to explore these cities and do activities that help us bond as a team.
4) Each dancer learns the value of hard work and dedication as we work on each dance for the whole season, improving with each practice and not giving up when things get tough. They also learn hard work through the fundraising that it takes to participate in these competitions.
5) The dance team gets to work with professional dancers by receiving feedback from the judges as well as taking classes from those judges during conventions. This is an incredible opportunity to learn and grow as a dancer from people outside of the studio and people who have excelled in the world of dance.
6) Each time they dance at competitions and participate in conventions, the dancers have the opportunity to win scholarships for dance schools around the country, entries into Nationals (dance competitions around the country) and to be recognized by the judges. Trophies, medals, banners, and awards are a nice bonus.
7) The friendships made within the team are friendships that could last a lifetime! We learn to trust those we dance with, and every member of the team supports each other with every performance.
There are many, many more reasons why the competition team would be beneficial for your dancer! If you were on the team before, comment how you benefited! And if you are new or interested, comment something you are looking forward to this upcoming season!
As a reminder, Skills Night for ages 5-9 is Monday, June 15th at 6pm. Skills Night for ages 10-18 is Tuesday, June 16th at 6pm. This is important to attend so we can insure proper placement and skill appropriate choreography. See you there!
