Hello Everyone! It's been a minute but we've had our planning and editing hats on!
In 2018, PCC students and faculty from across the District participated in a series of events with artist Mónica Mayer. An internationally renowned artist, Mayer began her art practice as an activist in Mexico City in the 1970s and continues to engage in dialogues about gender equity, gender violence, and other significant social justice issues through her work and her growing archive, Pinto Mi Raya. To commemorate Mayer's visit to Portland, Portland Women in Art Lecture Series (PWALS) has published their very first catalogue, made possible through the generosity of each of the four Campus Presidents, the Office of Professional and Organizational Development, the Internationalization Initiative, the WRCs on each campus and the Regional Arts and Culture Council (RACC).
This bilingual catalogue features photographic documentation by PCC faculty and students, images of Mayer's work on all four PCC campuses, documentation of Mayer's retrospective exhibition at the Paragon Art Gallery on the Cascade campus and an essay by scholar and PSU art historian, Alberto McKelligan Hernández.
The catalogue will be released on Friday, October 4, at 6:00 p.m. with a reception until 8:00 p.m. in the Paragon Art Gallery (815 N Killingsworth) where Mayer’s exhibition was mounted. Refreshments will be served. Catalogues will be available for free at the event. Donations to PWALS will also be accepted. The event is free and open to the public, and it coincides with the exhibition “BorderXer” by Patricia Vázquez Gómez.
Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Paragon for this exciting event!
