"Moondust evolved from a charcoal drawing of a creature in profile, complete with an anglerfish-style antenna sprouting from the top of its head. In the original sketch, the creature had only a few wart-like bumps, but as the painting developed, I kept adding texture and surface detail until its skin began to feel ancient, cratered, and almost planetary. Somewhere along the way, the glowing orb it carried stopped feeling like a lightbulb and started feeling unmistakably celestial.

Naturally, paint spatters followed. Tiny stars appeared across the surface, and then one particular splatter landed in exactly the right spot, carrying the unmistakable feeling of drifting moondust."

Artist: Nora Thompson

These little pals are up for adoption from my EIGHT ARMS TO HOLD YOU show at Cactus Gallery!

This painting started out as a drawing for Rotty Halloween 2024, drawn with black and white ink on toned gray Bristol (the first bit of the video).

Once I got to the painting, I knew I wanted to play up the squares part of it, so I painted it on a square 12"x12" panel and added some square clouds to the mix and gave him a friend. His name is P□□ch 🐾 (the second bit of the video).

Aaaaannnnddd....Here's another monster hanging around Cactus Gallery!

This is Frostbite. She started out as an ink and charcoal drawing for Rotty Halloween 2022 (see the second image). When I got to painting her, I thought she really needed some fur (she looked yeti-ish, and it looked cold where she was), and some texture to her skin.

I also experimented for the first time with the particles in the air, some in focus and bright; some blurry and softer. I like how it turned out.
