Jason Calhoun (Philly)
Jason’s work whirrs, hums, and glows. Unlike his recent output centered around extended, hypnotic compositions, the fourteen tracks on his latest record immediately request your attention and curiosity. Their concision only underscores one of his greatest strengths: the ability to capture an evaporating, fleeting moment, and hold it close. File under: Soft Noise
Anna Johnson (CHI) unites electroacoustic improvisation with backgrounds in medieval folk traditions and sacred music. Vocal expression is at the gravitational center of her layered sound, a portal to embodied, emotional presence. Based in drone and hypnotic repetition, her work offers a ritualistic experience: one that navigates intensities, though shifting terrains of tension and heaviness toward moments of release, from an internal space into a shared catharsis. Anna’s performances integrate projection installations of her textural moving images, made from prismatic abstractions of light through magnified miniature cameras. In all creative modalities, she is drawn to the meeting points between personal and mythical, present and ancient.
Joining these touring artists are two of Portland Maine’s own synth / electronic experimentalists,
Nick Lawler and Ron Harrity.
