Afternoon tea in the greenhouse yesterday with delicious treats from Bakeshop on NE Sandy in Portland, some favorite cheeses, and even a peach from my dwarf peach tree. We drank Black Orchid tea from Wildleaf Tea & Botanicals and soaked up this lovely summer weather!

This lovely weather calls for some cold brewed tea! Cacao Grove uses roasted cacao shells for robust smooth chocolate flavor, and it's rounded out by just the right amount of orange peel and mint. 🍫🍊🌿

I started with a few teaspoons of tea, 4 cups of filtered water, and let it brew in the fridge for about 16 hours before straining. I thought the flavor might be too light based on the color, but it's delightfully rich!

One of the beauties of tea is that you can adjust the amount you use, the time and technique for brewing, whether you add sweetener, etc. to make it to your liking. 😋

Last weekend we sold out of the new Portland Summer herbal tea blend! 😅 So, I dried more of my Cox's Orange Pippin apples and lemon balm, and voila, I have several more jars available now!

The blend includes several varieties of mint, lemon balm, dried apple, lavender, and calendula petals. It's great as an after dinner digestive, or chilled / cold brewed for a refreshing daytime beverage. 😋

Yesterday's Wildleaf Tea & Botanicals tasting in the greenhouse was so fun! Thanks to all who came out and sampled our variety of herbal tea blends, plus our signature Black Orchid luxury tea composed of black, oolong, vanilla bean, and orange blossoms, and the new Terere' yerba mate blend.

Side quest this week: making a big batch of fig leaf syrup. Bottles will be available for purchase at our tea tasting on Saturday between 10 and noon. It tastes great mixed with sparkling water, as a sweetener for tea or coffee, drizzled over ice cream or yogurt, and more!

Leaves are briefly toasted and then steeped in simple syrup. The flavor is similar to a lovely mix of vanilla, coconut, and pandan leaf.

You can sample it at our tea tasting with sparkling water and see what you think!

Introducing "Portland Summer 2026," a new herbal tea blend available to try and/or buy on Saturday at our tea tasting! The blend includes some of the most prolific plants in my summer garden: mint, lemon balm, dried apple pieces, calendula petals, and a hint of lavender. This past weekend we enjoyed one of our favorite blends of black, oolong, and floral teas called Black Orchid. A friend asked, does it contain orchid? Actually, yes! Vanilla bean pods come from the vanilla planifolia orchid. 🌼
