As I work on my art business, I wanted to come over here and present this concept of the dark mother as a beneficial thing, especially for those of us who are autistic and have autistic children. Our children need our protection and female creatures of all sorts have to have a sense of un obliterated fierceness in order to protect their children so this is an item intended to honor that dynamic to honor the sacredness of mother and child to honor the home the threshold and protect protected as well.
I know so many of you are not just women but mothers of your own spicy families and this is a testament to who we are as the powerful woman that we be../
The Atalase are threshold markers.
These pieces are meant to hang near a doorway as sacred objects of protection, remembrance, and passage.
The moon phases represent the cycle between light and darkness, innocence and protection, becoming and returning. The dark mother is not evil — she is the force willing to stand watch at the edge of the firelight so the young can remain safe enough to dream.
In many cultures there are protective feminine symbols placed at thresholds and entrances. The Atalase are my own evolving expression of that ancient instinct: to guard the home, protect the spirit of the household, and honor the sacred strength carried by mothers, caretakers, and watchful women everywhere.
These are made by hand, one at a time, from reclaimed and natural materials.
