These moments from rehearsal offer a glimpse into the world our ensemble has been building together.

Inspired by teatro de carpa and Día de Mu***os, this original production brings stories of memory, migration, and belonging to the stage.

Después de semanas de creación colectiva, movimiento, música, risas y memorias compartidas, Marigolds y Memorias está lista para encontrarse con su público.

Música, risas, sátira y un escenario cerca de su público.

La carpa llevó el entretenimiento popular a comunidades de México y de la región fronteriza, dando espacio a la vida de las clases trabajadoras, los personajes cómicos y las luchas cotidianas. Su influencia también llegó a El Teatro Campesino, que retomó elementos de la carpa y de otras tradiciones teatrales para convertir las experiencias de los trabajadores del campo en un llamado a la acción colectiva.

Este carrusel pone en diálogo imágenes de archivo y fotografías de ensayo para explorar una herencia teatral que los artistas siguen reinterpretando.

En Marigolds y Memorias, esa exploración toma forma a través de la música, el humor, el movimiento y las historias que nuestro elenco lleva al escenario.

Music, laughter, satire, and a stage close to its audience.

Carpa brought popular entertainment to communities across Mexico and the borderlands, making room for working-class lives, comic characters, and everyday struggles. Its influence also reached El Teatro Campesino, which drew on carpa and other theatrical traditions to turn farmworkers’ experiences into a call for collective action.

This carousel brings archival images and rehearsal photographs into conversation, exploring a theatrical heritage that artists continue to reinterpret.

In Marigolds y Memorias, that exploration takes shape through music, humor, movement and emotion with the stories our ensemble brings to the stage.

What happens when an idea becomes something none of us could have created alone?

In collective creation, each proposal becomes part of a shared conversation. Through research, improvisation, listening, and revision, the group discovers what the work can become.

In our cast interviews for Marigolds y Memorias, the actors describe what this process asks of them: setting aside the need to put their own ideas first, learning to give and receive, and allowing personal memories to become stories shaped by others.

Creating in community means allowing many voices to shape the work and letting the process transform the people making it.

En la creación colectiva, cada propuesta pasa a formar parte de una conversación compartida. A través de la investigación, la improvisación, la escucha y la revisión, el grupo descubre en qué puede transformarse la obra.

En nuestras entrevistas para Marigolds y Memorias, el elenco habla de lo que este proceso les exige: dejar de anteponer sus propias ideas, aprender a dar y recibir, y permitir que los recuerdos personales se conviertan en historias construidas con otras personas.

Less than 10 days left to submit your play for our annual Mundo de Mujeres Women's History Month celebration!

CALL FOR NEW WORKS BY LATINA PLAYWRIGHTS!
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2026

Three new works will receive staged readings as part of a New Play Festival within our annual Mundo de Mujeres Women's History Month celebration. Plays in varying stages of development will be presented on three Wednesdays in March 2027 (3/3, 3/17, 3/24).

The festival seeks to amplify Latina/e voices and stories exploring themes of womanhood, gender, sexuality, family relationships, identity, motherhood, sisterhood, and other experiences central to Latina/e communities. Selected playwrights will receive an honorarium and a staged reading featuring a director, dramaturg, and a cast of local professional actors, providing an opportunity to hear their work in front of a live audience and continue its development.

KEY DATES:
- Submissions must be received by September 25, 2026 at 5:00 PM PDT (7:00 PM CDT / 8:00 PM EDT)
- Selected playwrights will be notified by early January 2027
- Casting will take place throughout January and February
- Rehearsals will occur during the week leading up to each respective reading

ELIGIBILITY/GUIDELINES
- Open to playwrights who identify as Latina/e
- Original full-length plays only (approximately 70–120 minutes)
- Scripts may be in English, Spanish, or be bilingual
- Preference given to plays requiring six actors or fewer (Plays requiring more than six actors should include the playwright's preferred doubling plan.)
- Playwrights may submit multiple scripts
- Plays that have received, or are scheduled to receive a full professional production that premiers before September 2027 are not eligible
- Playwrights are strongly encouraged to attend their reading and participate in post-reading discussions, if possible

YOU’LL NEED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:
- PDF of the script formatted according to the Dramatists Guild of America Traditional or Modern Play Format
- Playwright biography (maximum 90 words)
- Play synopsis (maximum 150 words)
- Brief development history, if applicable
