Froelick Gallery is pleased to present Orlando Almanza’s 3rd solo exhibition "Llévame contigo / Take Me With You"

We invite you to join us for the Preview Reception of "Llévame contigo / Take Me With You" opening TOMORROW: September 2nd, From 5:00 to 7:00pm!

Almanza was born in 1989 in Las Tunas, Cuba and grew up there among an extended family, raising many animals and playing in an expanse of rivers, coconut trees and forest paths. His family and island upbringing influence his paintings to this day. This newest series of oil paintings explores Almanza’s transition from Cuba to living in Portland, Oregon. Almanza’s work redefines
symbolism and storytelling. His energetic paintings pull you into his
dream world of memory, myth, loss, and transformation. Each
painting invites us in, to reflect on what we believe to be true, and to
search for meaning in what we hold dear.

About this series Almanza writes: “The night I left Cuba, as is the
custom to avoid the mal de ojo, I could not tell anyone I was leaving. I
went to my favorite neighborhood bar, Melodrama, and sat with my
friends and neighbors, bidding farewell to everything without being
able to say goodbye… From the moment I left Cuba, I have not
stopped walking, searching for what I left behind. Always searching
for a way to not forget and to take it with me always.”

Recent honors include painting acquisitions by the City of Portland’s public art collection and Hood Museum, Dartmouth College, and two large-scale commissions for Hacienda CDC’s Dolores Building, Hillsboro, OR. In summer 2026 he was a Vermont Studio School Artist in Residence, he teaches annual workshops at Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, Neskowin, OR, Orlando Almanza joined Froelick Gallery in July 2022

Froelick Gallery is thrilled to introduce Lis Pardoe and welcome her to the gallery with her debut Portland exhibition "Here To Remind You"

We invite you to join us for the Preview Reception of "Here To Remind You" opening TOMORROW: September 2nd, From 5:00 to 7:00pm!

Lis Pardoe is a contemporary American artist whose
oil paintings affirm a world worth holding onto. In response to the dissonance she experiences living in
a fast-paced economy, her work narrates a return to awareness and ritual; an antidote to the anxiety
arising from the rapid passing of time. Pardoe uses
the figure as a catalyst to speak to the space
between ethereal beauty and bodily grief. Her paintings offer vibrant color, domestic detail, and multidimensional light, depicting introspective and layered scenes that portray a world she believes to exist within us.

Born in Sandy, Utah, Pardoe grew up along the Wasatch Front. Shortly after graduating from Viewmont High School in 2010, Pardoe began an apprenticeship at the Hein Atelier of Traditional Art, from which she graduated in late 2015. After spending her twenties in Salt Lake City, she and her spouse relocated to his hometown of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, México, before landing in Portland, Oregon, where she now lives and works.

In 2021, she won the museum exhibition award in the 15th International ARC Salon, from which the Springville Museum of Art collected “Tell Me About Your Day” in 2022. She has exhibited at noteworthy institutions such as the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art (2020) and Baton Rouge Gallery’s Surreal Salon (2025). She shows with galleries across the U.S.

"My drawing is mostly quiet, and observational. I sit
or stand and look at stuff and draw it. Nothing fancy
or spectacular, it’s just me looking at the thing.
Whether it is a reflection of my own gaze or a gather of flowers that I picked, nothing changes..."
