Class Description/Info about Safety Release:
This master class will focus on the principles of Safety Release (SR). Class starts with initial somatic experiences that progress into more complex movement patterns, inviting participants to align, ground, release, redirect, expand, and share in the joy of movement, all while expressing themselves through full-bodied physicality. Class is split between floor work and big, traveling movement phrases building on patterns and pathways that move us in, out, and through space. The aim is to deepen our awareness and appreciation of ourselves and the possibilities of movement, together!

Dancers are encouraged to wear long sleeves and loose-fitting pants to allow for floor work and ease of movement; kneepads are optional.

Safety Release (SR) was developed by B.J. Sullivan (B.J. Sullivan Safety Release Inc.). At its core, SR focuses on the skeletal structure and grounding tension aimed to cultivate movement efficiency, expanded body awareness, and joint freedom. SR is an application to dancing that focuses on the spine action and major joints to direct energy and be in motion efficiency while learning to be free of frozen tension. The class begins on the floor as a somatic movement laboratory with exercises that develop into a safety rolls series that help movers get into and out of the floor easily while protecting vulnerable areas that are prone to injury through continued use. The combinations grow from floor work to upright work that have the body moving fully with elasticity and fluidity. The class is a cumulative process organically shifting from a somatic awareness into rigorous physicality and expression.
