Maegan had one of her best classes in four years last night. She was overlooked at her old school and originally had trouble with EVERYTHING. Her technique has steadily gotten stronger and she found her turn-out this past summer. She wanted to focus on artistry last night and choreographed this piece about 'The Gadfly'.

From about the intermediate advanced level onwards I include choreography into each class- it helps with rhythm, coordination, ordering of enchantment and (of course) creativity. All dancers should be able to choreograph and teach. Here, I asked Kailey to do a degage combination which included degage, pas de cheval, piques, and pirouettes. I think this was excellent.

I honestly don't understand how she does it. I'm okay putting together the occasional degage or petite Allegro but could never do this! A bit of ballet a bit of Robbins certainly some Fosse and a ton of energy. The Music is which is an amazing piece of 'minimalist' music with Torke's signature optimism. My first instructor, Robert Steele introduced me to Torke's Bright Blue music two decades ago. The music was subsequently used for the NYCB by Peter Martins. I think Scarlett has begun choregraphing something complex, exciting and layered here.

First time working on pirouette developpe seconde with Maegan. "Consistently inconsistent" Maegan had a great class tonight.

I missed having in the studio regularly in November and December during her run in "Elf". She still has incredible pirouettes.

Thanks .hawkes for working with June! For over 450 years ballet has been passed from teacher to student. An essential part of training is learning to teach.

As someone who worked there, this is blatantly untrue- the mission was to present and educate in the arts from a local, national and international level. The dance presented when I was there included a small rising NY based modern company to the Bolshoi Ballet to a local Philippino choreographer. Funding was largely from tickets and unrestricted (no donor restrictions) donations with a small federal fund to run the park aspect. Since January 2025, both ticket sales and donations are literally at their worst point ever- down about 75%. The Center currently survives by replacing lost income with federal subsidy from the White House. In true satirical fashion the statement released by the John F Kennedy Center today reflects the current, not the past ideology. #1984
