Through a combined old school food drive and virtual food drive, Portland Sage Singers brought together members and supporters to
Food Drive Impact

The Portland Sage Singers’ collective effort resulted in:
* 491 pounds of food collected through the in‑person drive
* $1,786 raised through the Virtual Food Drive
* 357% of their original $500 goal achieved​
Using Feeding America’s standard metrics and the purchasing power of food bank partnerships, this combined effort equals the equivalent of:

* 6,920 pounds of food, or
* 5,358 meals for neighbors experiencing food insecurity
Portland Sage Singers are showing what meaningful, values‑aligned community action looks like—especially in challenging times.
Their support helps sustain:

* Access to food rooted in dignity, choice, and respect
* A community‑anchored response built on trust and relationship
* Essential food infrastructure that takes years to build and can be lost in minutes.

At a time when public food systems are increasingly unstable, Portland Sage Singers’ leadership sends a clear and powerful message: when government fails to meet basic needs, community rises to meet one another.

Thought you all would like to see what went out today! On January 10, I will have lived three quarters of a century! 2026 also marks my 40th Anniversary of Coming Out! And here I am at 75 still waving my arms at people. For decades, I have used round number birthdays to help raise funds for organizations I love. 70 was for the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus. There couldn’t be a better recipient this time around than the Portland Sage Singers. This brand-new chorus of Q+ Elders and Allies is rockin’ (not just in chairs!). In December, we performed with 70 singers with an average age of 70! I would be so grateful if you could find a little money to support them. Any amount is fantastic – maybe multiples of 75…. $7.50 would be great! Or $15.00, $75.00, etc. We’ll be grateful for any amount, of course. I can guarantee your donation will be put to great use to help give the Sage Singers a firm financial foundation for the years ahead. The above graphic couldn’t accommodate all the music I’ve been lucky enough to make with you! PSS is the 5th LGBTQ+ chorus I’ve had the privilege to conduct over the last 39 years. You know them well: the Turtle Creek Chorale; The Women’s Chorus of Dallas; Resounding Harmony (SATB); San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus; and now the precious Portland elders. Lucky me! I know you have been wondering all year about what to get me for this birthday (not!). Well, I don’t need any more ties, cufflinks or cologne (Jade East and English Leather were my faves). When I was younger, I never imagined I would be this old! I certainly could have never imagined I would be surrounded by beauty in every possible way: the place where I live; the husband of my dreams; a completely codependent puppy dog; friends far and near and still making music. You all have kept me going and kept me young (ish)! Thank you for being a part of it along the way!After this one, I'm pretty sure you're off the hook. Surely I won't still be doing this at 80!
