If you've been to the Japanese American Historical Plaza lately, you may have noticed that the base of one of the columns had been damaged. We unfortunately never solved the mystery of how it happened, but the base has been repaired and is back to its original condition thanks to the efforts of JAMO, RACC, and Portland Parks & Recreation. Be sure to check out the autumn scene down by the waterfront sometime soon!

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out today to help with the community cleanup! Nearly 50 volunteers showed some love to a few of our favorite spots- the Japanese American Historical Plaza, Lan Su Chinese Garden, the Japanese American Museum of Oregon, and the Portland Chinatown Museum.

Today, on Min's birthday, we are proud to announce the 2021 Minoru Yasui Student Contest. This essay contest centers around a theme of refugee and immigrant experiences, which mirrors the theme of our 2021 Minoru Yasui Day program coming up in March.

We are excited to be offering more prizes this year, which you can read about on the contest flyer, attached. Full details about contest guidelines are on the Minoru Yasui Legacy website: minoruyasuilegacy.org/student-contest

Please share this information widely, especially to educators and students. We hope you are well and able to channel a little bit of Min's spirit of perseverance today.
