Auditions for Bilingual Play, Sat. Sept. 18
What: Teatro Milagro is casting for a multi-media, bilingual production about the life and work of Federico Garcia Lorca. This original work, Duende de Lorca, debuted in 2011, and is being reimagined with video segments and innovative musical numbers, written by Dañel Malan, direction by Lawrence Siulagi and video creation by Mandana Khoshnevisan.
When: Video auditions can be sent via email or video link prior to Sept. 10th for consideration to call-backs. Live auditions Saturday, September 18th, by appointment. Call-backs Saturday, September 25th.
Production for video segments begins in October, dates TBD, and stage rehearsals begin in December, primarily evenings and weekends. The production opens to live audiences, with safety protocols, on Friday, January 14th and runs Thursdays through Saturdays through January 28th.
Cast:
Actor 1 – as close to looking and singing like Lorca as possible as can be
Actor 2 – male presenting, “Apollonian” as described by Lorca
Actor 3 – older, elegant but rugged
Actor 4 – graceful, dancer, non-binary
Actor 5 – female, very young looking
*The same actors also appear as mechanicals in movement sequences.
Compensation & Requirements: All positions are paid at an equitable hourly rate. Must be fully vaccinated to audition.
About the Production: Framed in the setting of a jail on the eve of Federico Garcia Lorca’s ex*****on, his life story unfolds from the opening night of Mariana Pineda, followed by the printing of Gypsy Ballads and his travels to New York and Cuba. Audiences will share in his triumphs, failures, relationships and travels as they shape his life and his art. Post-show talk-backs and workshops will explore his historical presence and contemporary influence in the LGBTQ+ community.
