If you like to unwind, get your creativity going, and gain some new painting skills, this is the class for you. All levels are welcome. This is a 2hr instructed painting session. The painting will be acrylic paint on canvas. Original image is created by the instructor. You can also use your imagination and ideas and create your own image if you feel inspired. All supplies are provided. Students get to take home their art at the end. Also light snacks will be provided and students can bring their own snacks and drinks too.
Artist statement or biography: Garineh is a painter, working on exploring the subconscious and conscious mind. She likes to use art as a therapeutic tool as well as for enjoyment, and connection with self, community, and God. Most of her original pieces are a combination of color blending, patterns, and symbolism. She also does custom orders of human and pet portraits, and landscapes.

Short Description
Step into an enchanted forest and discover the cozy art of needle felting as you create a magical pumpkin with its own hidden story.
Inspired by woodland folklore, this beginner-friendly workshop guides students through sculpting a wool pumpkin, creating a rustic stem, and personalizing it with fabric embellishments.
Each student begins by creating a hidden Pumpkin Heart—a clean cotton or wool sock containing a private written wish. Layer by layer, the pumpkin grows around this hidden heart before students visit The Forest Floor to forage for art yarns, silks, textured fibers, metallic threads, and other woodland treasures.
To complete the experience, each pumpkin receives an enchanted star tied beneath its stem as a reminder that hope is often carried quietly inside.
Students also receive a keepsake story card. Students should bring one clean cotton or wool sock (instructor will have a few extras on hand). All other supplies are provided.

Artist Statement
Kate Rodrigue is a Pacific Northwest artist whose work is inspired by quiet landscapes, changing seasons, and the beauty found in everyday moments. Working in oils, acrylics, watercolor, and fiber-based projects, she enjoys creating approachable classes that help beginners discover the joy of making art. Kate believes creativity should be relaxing, encouraging, and accessible to everyone, and her classes focus on building confidence while creating artwork students are proud to take home.

Remembering Donna Saffir Zenobia

Donna Saffir Zenobia, past President of the Village Gallery of Arts, passed away on June 5,
2026.

A Celebration of Life for Donna will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 p.m.
at the Nathman Community Room on the Mary’s Woods Campus, 17530 Provost Street, Lake
Oswego, Oregon 97034.
Just three months after her election, in 2019 the Gallery was forced to close due to the COVID-
19 pandemic. During her two-year term as president Donna guided the organization through this
challenging time, working with the Board to develop new procedures and safety measures that
ultimately allowed the Gallery to reopen.

Donna was also instrumental in bringing together a committee to develop a vision and establish
goals for streamlining and improving the gallery’s appearance, functionality, and security. Before
Donna’s initiative, the gallery had three rotating card racks and a large front desk where the
jewelry showcase is located today. The arrangement created an obstructed flow through the
gallery and provided less security for small, more valuable items.

Through research, thoughtful discussion, and some shrewd shopping by committee members,
Donna and her team brought their vision to life. Their work resulted in the card wall, a new
checkout counter that incorporated display space, storage, a point-of-sale area, and a refreshed
red wall that has become so familiar to VGA members and visitors today.

Donna was a teacher, an actress, and an artist. Those who knew and worked with her at VGA
remember her for her kindness, loving heart, and love of life. Her contributions to the gallery
remain a part of the space we enjoy today.

Donna is survived by her sons, Duncan and Jason, their spouses, Paula and Brent, a gaggle of
nieces and extended family, and countless friends.

Enjoy the artwork of our members as it is displayed out in the community. Some of our VGA artists have work on display at the Summer Art Showcase at both the Brookwood and Shute libraries. Here are some pieces from glass artist Sharon Dunham. The glass mosaic table and fused glass platter are at the Brookwood and the fossil vitra glass plant 2D piece is at the Shute library.
There will be a reception at the Brookwood library on Thursday, August 6th from 5:30-7pm.
