Discover the art of huayi, the traditional Chinese practice of floral arrangement, with Lan Su’s Curator of Horticulture, Josie Losh, on Saturday, October 10, 1–3 PM.

For this one-day-only workshop, you’ll work with osmanthus branches harvested from Lan Su’s own collection and learn how to create an arrangement inspired by this fragrant autumn flower.

Osmanthus has a rich history in Chinese culture. The word for osmanthus, gui 桂, is a homophone of gui 貴, meaning nobility, and the flower has long appeared in Chinese art and been associated with scholarly achievement.

At the end of the workshop, you’ll get to take your huayi arrangement home to enjoy or gift!

A special thank you to all of our wonderful guests who joined us at Golden Horse Seafood Restaurant for our Moonlight Feast experience! 🌕✨

It was wonderful to see so many of you enjoying a family-style Cantonese dinner, sharing lively conversations, and spending the evening together beneath the Mid-Autumn moon in the garden.

Over the course of three nights, we welcomed 746 guests to the garden for Mid-Autumn Nights Out, including 177 for the reunion dinner. What makes the Moonlight Feast even more meaningful is our partnership with Golden Horse Seafood Restaurant, one of the two remaining authentic Chinese restaurants in Portland’s Old Chinatown.

By gathering around the table and sharing this tradition together, you helped us celebrate and support the continued presence of Chinese culture in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to Golden Horse for sharing this celebration with us and for bringing delicious food and wonderful service as always.

中秋節快樂! Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! 🌕🐇

To celebrate Mid-Autumn, we’re sharing the story of the Moon Rabbit and why this beloved figure has become such an important part of the holiday.

The Moon Rabbit has since become a symbol of generosity, sacrifice, and compassion. These values are closely connected to the spirit of Mid-Autumn Festival, a time traditionally centered around family, reunion, gratitude, and sharing with others.

Today, we’re kicking off our weekend-long celebration with our Mid-Autumn Market during the day and special nighttime performances after dark. There’s plenty to see, explore, and experience throughout the garden all weekend long.
