Portland Horse Project

Portland Horse Project Community Project Art Project As we notice these horses they become catalysts for further awareness of our rich surroundings. Second, simply tie your horse.

To participate:
For this public art project, utilize the metal rings that are located on various sidewalks around Portland, Oregon. (The rings have been embedded in the concrete curbs since they were actually used to secure horses and
carriages.) First, acquire a toy horse and locate a ring. Third, leave the horse
there just as one would have left their actual horse a hundred years ago. Yours is a

gift to the city. (Note: The
Dollar Store has great horses for this project.) Also, if you're wondering, WHERE ARE THE RINGS???? Answer:

As far as I know, there is not a comprehensive map. There are literally hundreds of rings all over the city. They are especially dense, so to speak, in the Pearl and most of NW north of Burnside, inner SE, Mississippi, rings on SE Woodstock, also SE Glisan. I've also seen rings in Sellwood. And, I recently sought rings in the West Hills and was surprised to find many there as well, especially in the neighborhoods south of the Rose Garden. Those are just a few areas where rings are sure to be. Have fun, and post pics!

Hey Portlanders, been a minute! Here’s a pick-me-up for your Thursday. Named for the uninhabited island off the North Carolina coast where wild horses still roam, this energetic original features a distinct western flavor with strong themes and solid scoring throughout. Enjoy! What a time! 🐎🐴🐎

Happy Lunar New Year and Welcome to the Year of the Horse! Big love to the Pacific Northwest and everyone celebrating worldwide. We’re sending an extra loud HOORAY from the Portland Horse Project and sharing our official poster and graphic by Portland artist Rachael Modrcin. In the spirit of the project, in this city full of 100-year-old sidewalk rings, she included a “Ring Only” option so everyone can bring their own horse to life.
New shirts also dropped today along with a fun mug and postcards. Link in comments. Every purchase funds a print run for the free posters and postcards we’ll be placing around town over the next month or two. Spread the love!
2026 arrives as the Year of the Fire Horse, bringing bold energy, creative spark, independence, and fearless forward motion. Charge ahead, take the risk, blaze your own trail. See you out there!
