Say hello to , one of our amazing participants in the program who is here with us this week for Phase 3: Culmination!

We asked Saraph to share some stand out and challenging moments so far, as well as personal dance goals!

There are two important focuses in Phase 3, in addition to dance technique and vocabulary: Zil composition and Dance composition!

In Phase 3, participants create a group piece to demonstrate their understanding of how to compose a dance with an arc, to create dynamics and contrast, and map music. They also learn a more challenging zil composition, practicing their zil skills and musicality.

Our shoutout for today is ⭐️

Bonnie graduated from the program in 2025! She is an STL area Fusion Belly Dancer artist, member of the Stygian Collective, and is also trained and certified in Dance Cohesion and Boho Blade.

We love seeing this choreography! Seeing Bonnie’s creativity and performance skill is wonderful. Keep up the great work Bonnie!

They are offering classes at the studio on Monday and Wednesday evenings:

Mondays:
6:30 - 7:30 Beyond Beginners with
7:45 - 8:45 Solo Improvisation with Heather

Wednesdays:
6:30 - 7:30 Intro to Tabla with
6:30 - 7:30 Intro to Raqs Sharqi with
7:45 - 8:45 Dance to the Drum with Ella & Jason

Heather is also offering an online Intro to Raqs Sharqi class on Tuesdays at 6:30 (with access to recordings).

Tobias Roberson is a percussionist and rhythm teacher who played for and many other dancers.

Tobias’ music is one of the many musical influences that helped to shape the musicality of this style today.

Say hello to .redfern , one of our fabulous participants who joined us for the Phase 2 intensive last week!

What happens in this second phase of the program? Phase 2 shifts focus to practice habits and different learning methods and approaches. Dance Vocabulary and finger cymbal playing increase in challenge.

We always like to hear from our participants’ perspectives on what they find most interesting about their experience in the program.
