BPM is a room for people to participate in something that we hope is ultimately constructive and reinforces our shared humanity in an increasingly inhumane world. When people do unsafe or disrespectful things in this shared space, we remove them immediately. Sometimes we initiate these forcible exits ourselves, sometimes we have to call the police because we’re out of our depth - but we remain vigilantly aware of any perceived risk.
If something happens to you outside of Blue, our first concern is that you’re safe. We have and always will listen, and will always recommend the agencies, hotlines and resources that are best equipped to help you stay safe in the world. This doesn’t mean we don’t hear or believe you, but those resources specifically exist to support you in ways we cannot! Our only options are to attempt to trust in our justice system, and to lean on the organizations and advocacy groups who nobly address the flaws and holes in that system.
There is a situation from over 2 years ago that’s gotten a bit of traction online - this situation didn’t happen anywhere near Blue, but did involve 2 participants of our programming. We responded the way we have always responded - by asking: Are you safe? I personally recommended resources to take appropriate action.
Our involvement in this situation is being grossly misrepresented, however the whole ordeal has been very well documented. An action was taken, the rule followed, and no volatile incident has taken place between either party in any capacity since.
Our role is to provide space for creativity and interconnection, something we will continue to do, as we have always done.
We are keeping the comments open and I’m working at Blue tonight. Always available for respectful discourse!
