Humans have been creating music about falling in and out of love from time immemorial. This multi-media Valentine’s Day concert and lecture includes performances by Grammy award-winning Hopi-Nez Perce Native American flutist James Edmund Greeley; internationally acclaimed gospel, jazz, and blues singer Marilyn Keller; singer, composer, pianist, and recording artist Naomi LaViolette; and the Portland Chamber Orchestra along with neuroscientist, public speaker, author and lifelong musician Dr. Larry Sherman. The show mixes modern and ancient romantic music with visuals and discussions about the neuroscience of how our brains engage with music – listening, learning, performing, and composing – and the unique ways that love songs impact brain function and human bonding.
