Portland Piano International

Portland Piano International Presenting the world's finest pianists in recitals.

For over 40 years, Portland Piano International has presented more than 150 artists in solo recital and through outreach activities. Some of the greatest artists in the world of music — Emanuel Ax, John Browning, Shura Cherkassky, Arnaldo Cohen, Bella Davidovich, Misha Dichter, Vladimir Feltsman, Leon Fleischer, Richard Goode, Stephen Hough, Stephen Kovacevich, Radu Lupu, Ivan Moravec, Murray Perahia, Peter Serkin, Andras Schiff, Mitsuko Uchida, Andre Watts, to name a few — have played for Portland audiences because of this organization. While pianists have many opportunities to play the concerto repertoire, this is one of only a handful of recital series that remains devoted to the solo piano recital, and invitations to appear on the series are highly prized. Lorin Hollander spoke for many people when he said, “It is wonderful to have such a treasure as the Piano Recital Series!”

She listens with her whole body. Ying Li, pianist plays as if discovering each sound for the first time — alert to color, to silence, to the way a note fades. She takes the Lincoln Hall stage on Sunday, December 6, part of our 26-27 Timeless Recital Series.

The mind behind the season, at the keyboard. Boris Giltburg curated all of 26-27 as our Guest Artistic Curator — seven artists, one sensibility — and this spring he plays it himself, with the blazing intensity and tenderness that are his signature. Sunday, March 14 at Lincoln Hall.
