Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble

Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble We're a Portland based company of artists who make new performance in a collaborative way.

Portland Experimental Theatre Ensemble is an artist cooperative dedicated to creating new theatrical events that reify the relationship between audience and artist. We develop original, ensemble-generated pieces and produce innovative interpretations of classical text. Inspired by a contemporary design aesthetic, inventive storytelling modes, and heightened emotional honesty, we create work that i

s visceral, raw and revealing. Founded in 2011 by Kate Sanderson Holly, Rebecca Lingafelter, Cristi Miles, Amber Whitehall and Jacob Coleman.

🥳 Today we are celebrating our final Between You and Me partnership of the year, with Lincoln High School and their incredible teacher Tracie Talerico. PETE facilitators Isabel McTighe and Kai Hynes worked with this wonderful class of freshman high school students for 8 weeks to develop an original piece of mythology about the relationship between the sun and the moon. We are grateful to all of our partners, as well as our other residency partners in 25-26, Milwaukie Academy of the Arts and David Douglas High. 🌼

Exciting news from our neighbors at Third Rail — X opens this Friday!

Directed by PETE founding member Rebecca Lingafelter, featuring ICP alum Olivia Mathews and PETE members Trevor Sargent, Mark Valadez and Jenny Ampersand.

“Stranded in the cosmos, far from the world you know, what remains that roots you to home?

In the distant future, a group of explorers and scientists are abandoned inside an isolated research base on Pluto. All contact with Earth has ceased. As hope gives way to paranoia, time disintegrates and reality is questioned; strange visitations begin to encroach. Faced with a sense of rapidly escalating alienation, the galactic castaways fight to retain their humanity and the relationships upon which their survival depends.”

Dates: May 22 - June 7, 2026
Location: CoHo Theater - 2257 NW Raleigh St, Portland, OR 97210

Join PETE July 20-31 for our annual Suzuki/Viewpoints Summer Intensive! We will train as an ensemble 10am-4pm, Mon-Fri, for two weeks at Lewis & Clark College. PETE’s summer intensive offers a thorough grounding in Anne Bogart’s 9 Viewpoints and the Suzuki method of training. These complementary techniques train the body, voice, perception, and creativity of the performing artist, and this intensive will give participants a strong grounding in the fundamentals of these trainings and how they can be applied to use in contemporary performance. PETE’s summer intensive also includes training in using the Viewpoints and Suzuki methods to build ensemble and create original work.
