The Flow Factory wants to be a collective of flow, movement and circus artists and technicians in Portland Oregon, Olympia Washington and everywhere between and beyond, striving to create space for individual and collaborative expression, growth, fulfillment, wonder and the crafting and manipulation of objects. The mission of the Flow Factory is to empower people to live the lives that they want.

Our chosen praxis is the flow arts, also known as object manipulation, juggling, fire spinning, or prop dance. This art, or non-competitive exercise practice if that resonates better, is simple and accessible enough for children, but leads down sufficiently deep rabbit holes to be a long lasting hobby. We sell high quality props and provide top shelf instruction and inspirational performance. We’re moving towards opening a storefront and studio space in Portland or Olympia, where we can have classes and workshops for the general public, host more community events, and provide shared and private studio time for members. For now, the main base of operations is a small shop in portland, oregon, where we make things and sell things and practice all the time.

🔥audio is from ‘against his-story, against leviathan’ by fredy perlman. i recorded an audio version of the book this winter, hmu for a link. the text is online at theanarchistlibrary.org, and i also have a few paper copies. the book is (in part) a description of the process of the thingification of all life living into objects of use for the reproduction of impersonal institutions, and of the resistance of people and communities to this process.

i want more space, more collaborators, more viral awareness for a covid-safe library/bookshop, movement space, workshop. and i also need to be able to fall into depressionish states where i miss rent for a couple months- so i am very grateful for small and cheap spot ive got

i dunno yall, most things about most things are entirely fubared and in order to actually change any thing we’re gonna have to change quite a lot, including much that we enjoy or appreciate or are emotionally attached to. and most days i dont think most of us are even willing or able to even approach the questions that we desperately need to be finding answers to. we are so propagandized into accepting human designed/built/maintained systems as naturally occurring phenomena that just are, that we dedicate our life energies to maintaining/ strengthening them to our own detriment. we are slaves in the belly of the beast, spinning the cogs and tightening the springs of the megamachine whose function is to enslave all life living into its dead self, that sees every thing that exists as a resource to be consumed. we can blame the pathetic mostly men who aspire to bosshood, who battle each other over control of other people’s time, but its all of us that continue to serve, and it seems that any mechanism within our reach is just that- a mechanism (of the machine) that is able to recuperate even our direct actions against it into strengthening itself. and we argue over which length of which lever, which color of which cog and cant even see the enclosure that we’re trapped inside. or if there even is still an outside..... climbing over each other towards whats been presented as an escape hatch but is really just a more fortified entrenchment- still in, of, and for the machine, and against our selves, life, and community.

randy you should really be getting more work done, but i’d rather plant feathers under trees and watch the flowers move.
fine, we’ll compromise by commodifying your leisure and make it content to feed to the attention eating surveillance monster that we made to occupy yall and keep ya alienated watchers while we obliterate humans and ecosystems, i mean so you can stay connected to your friends, family, and customers. we do provide all the best dissociation technologies so you can at least pretend to remain innocent or ignorant of the violence and exploitation that you contribute to. i mean you are an american, randy- its your duty to be fuel for this economy that allows us to bomb children all around the world to protect corporate financial interests, i mean make the world safe for democracy.

ok fine i guess and i post again cuz i gotta get some more dollars to buy my ability to exist, i mean connect with my friends.

in retreat, but the bills are still (over)due. been seeking clarity in pages and isolating (even more than usual) from my community. the horrors are so distant and yet so deep inside me- like bass tremor and sobbing- like what do any of us deserve but to be buried starving in the rubble?
i dont want to mean that. i dont think its what we deserve, but it is what we seem to be collectively building. more bombs. more cops. more mines. you think we can build spaceships without slaves? in this political economy?
how can i be non-complicit in the genocides when power skims off the top of every dollar transaction to fund them and i need dollar transactions to survive?
it was nice to move from my brooding for a minute and talk to a friend and have a little spin to their music.
there are patterns that we follow which reproduce themselves unless we are (self)critical and deliberate. there are new pathways that practice can smooth.
somehow, we’re each, both, and all the pattern and the pathway, each unique and all connected and all together, rolling and being rolled along ourselves, each other, and the spaces between-the pattern and the patterned and the patterner. we have less choice than we want and more than it’s sometimes convenient to admit…
