What is this all about? Art, creativity, and FUN!
Find a rock? Take a photo and share it on this page! We'd love to know the story behind the rock you found. Where was it? When did you find it? Are you keeping it or hiding it for someone else?
Would you like to join in the fun and excitement? Simply paint, mod podge, or decorate a rock any way you want AND on the bottom write:
'Post to Facebook "Portland MI Rocks" OR print the labels that we've posted on this page and mod podge them to the bottom of your rocks. (See EXAMPLE pic below.)
Be sure to use a clear coat sealant so that your creation is waterproof. Then the real fun begins: go place your rock in a park or in a special location and wait for it to be found! Watch the group postings to see if someone takes a photo with your rock!
This is an easy and fun project that encourages children, families, artists, and groups to brighten someone's day by painting a rock and hiding it for someone to find!
Rock Hunt hints:
1- If you choose to keep a rock, make sure to replace it with a rock or two that you paint and hide. You can always find a rock and re-hide it! Please don't keep more rocks than you replace. We want to maintain this activity for others.
2- Please do not place rocks inside businesses.
3- Place rocks in areas where they can be easily found. If you place rocks in grassy areas they may cause damage to lawn equipment.
4- You may post hints of where you hide rocks, but it is not required. Sometimes it is fun to let people unknowingly come across a hidden rock.
5- This rock hunt is not just for Portland, MI. Please place rocks far and wide!
6- Please think safety first! Please do not place rocks in medians, on the side of the road, or in other risky areas.
7- Invite your friends and neighbors to join the fun by inviting them to this page!
8- If you are getting too many FB notifications, you can change your settings to every single post does not appear in your news feed. Simply go to the top of the page, click on "Notifications" and choose a different setting.
9- It is important to mark the back of your rocks with "Post to Facebook- Portland MI Rocks".
10- If you use water-based paint, you will need to waterproof your rock with a sealant so they don't get ruined by rain, dew, or sprinkler systems. We like to use the spray clear sealant found next to the acrylic paint in craft stores.
11-When visiting a park, please encourage kids to only take one rock with them. You may re-hide others you find. Leave some rocks at the park for others to find. GOLDEN RULE: if you decide to keep a rock, replace it with a rock or two that you have painted.
12- Be kind! Please be considerate and nice to one another in this group. Kids often view the posts on this page.
