“What is he carrying in his hand?” is the first question everyone asks me about this painting. A musical instrument? A pool cue? We will never know for sure. He disappeared before I could ask him. The book covers on the shelves have direct references to my daily life: “Sleuth” is a neighborhood cat who visits my Portland front porch daily. “Son of Iron Guts” is a tribute to my father, whose own father was Native American. “Willoughby” and “451” are tributes to Jane Austen and Ray Bradbury. Several books reflect our current political/cultural conundrums.

Luke’s Frame Shop upgraded one of my favorite paintings with a stellar frame. "The Spirit of America" - Acrylic on Canvas Panel, 2018

The Story: Craig Breedlove and his turbo-jet powered vehicle "The Spirit of America," broke land speed records at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in the 1960s. Craig was the first person in history to reach 500 miles per hour, and then 600 miles per hour.

The dog in this painting was a stray found by Craig and the "Spirit of America" crew. He had been abused and his ge****ls had been covered with spray paint. Craig and the crew adopted the dog and brought him back to health. And here you can see, the loyal pooch paid them back in kind. The first image is my painting, and the second image is the original picture taken back in the 1960s by land speed historian and my friend, Ron Christensen.
The original painting and prints are available through the link in my profile
