Third Rail’s “Off the Rails” Storytelling Workshop returns for our 21st Season.

Storytelling asks us to take a risk: to share something of ourselves and invite others in. What happens next is the magic of live storytelling.

“Off the Rails: Introduction to Storytelling” is a workshop for anyone who loves a great story, is curious about personal storytelling, or wonders what it might feel like to step onstage and share a story of their own.

You don’t need to arrive with a story in mind or even know where to begin. You don’t even need to think of yourself as a performer.

Over the course of a month, local teaching artist Sascha Blocker will guide you through the process of discovering and developing a short personal story. You’ll move step-by-step from shaping your story and receiving feedback to rehearsing and ultimately sharing it with a live audience, learning the fundamentals of storytelling while building confidence as you go.

Finding your story is only the beginning. The next step is sharing it.

Yesterday, the Third Rail staff went out for a delicious group dinner at Nicholas Restaurant in SE Portland to celebrate Alea Tran, who is working their final shift with us this weekend. Alea, pictured third from the right, has been an instrumental part of the Third Rail team since 2022. We will miss them very much, but can’t wait to see them continue to shine in their next chapter. Join us in sending Alea off with love!

As we say goodbye to Alea, we are thrilled to welcome Ava Violet Schmidt to the Third Rail staff. Ava, pictured far right, is an alumni of our Season 20 Mentorship Company, and is now joining as a member of the Box Office and Admin team. Welcome, Ava!

We love our staff! It is always a delight to celebrate the people who make Third Rail what it is.
