Spybird Theater’s “Puppet Crimes” is a raucously hilarious satire for teens & adults with snappy rhyme & absurdity, inspired by German, British, & Italian hand puppet traditions. Heroes Kasper & Gretel struggle to survive in an old shack on the margins of society. Oh, what it takes for a common puppet to survive for 400 years in the face of war, tyranny, and economic oppression! — Friday, March 4 at 7:00 PM — Tickets begin at $15

Sandglass Theater's "Punschi" is an exciting hand puppet show in the tradition of European-style fairground entertainment full of humor, adventure & zest, performed under a big sun umbrella! Our witty hero Kasper is preparing to go on a journey when his plans are flustered by a comical cow & he has to go on a rollicking chase. This interactive romp has lots of call-and-response between puppets and audience, and is accompanied by the ukulele and physical comedy. — Saturday, March 5 at 1:00 PM — Tickets begin at $10 youth; $15 adults

Calling all puppeteers, venerable and ignominious! King Friday, post-monarch, deposed & living in squalor hath did request new puppet works!

Mayo Street Arts is pleased to announce the grand return of King Friday’s Dungeon, a production supported by the national Puppet Slam Network created by Heather Henson. Puppet artists from around New England (and beyond!) perform pieces of puppet theater that are new, edgy, adult-themed, and works in progress.

We’re seeking passionate purveyors and performers of the puppet arts to take to our stage on Friday, November 12, and Saturday, November 13, at 7:00 PM. If you are unable to grant us the pleasure of an in-person performance, we are also accepting videos/short films to screen.

We’re positively delighted that Nance Parker and Shoestring Theater have offered to join Parade With Us! - A Message From Far Away on August 5. They’re bringing some BIG puppets and we’re in need of folks to bring them to life!

All experience levels (including none!) are welcome to volunteer. If you’ve never puppeteered before, this is a great opportunity to give it a go! Our only requirements are that you are an adult and able to walk one mile.

To thank you for your assistance, you’ll receive a special invitation to a Post-Parade Puppeteer Patio Party that will take place in Portland later that afternoon.

Some exciting news from one of our puppet slam performers!

Puppeteer and illustrator extraordinaire Teagan Moon, has accepted an offer from Bennington College in Vermont to continue their studies in visual and performing arts!

We have some exciting news to share about a regular Mayo Street Arts volunteer and puppet slam performer!

Puppeteer and illustrator extraordinaire Teagan Moon, has accepted an offer from Bennington College in Vermont to continue their studies in visual and performing arts! Teagan has dazzled audiences at MSA with their dragons and fantastical creatures, including The Dragon Prince which debuted at the November 2019 King Friday's Dungeon Puppet Slam.

Pictured in an original self portrait created by Teagan as an installment in their recent art series. The piece represents the acceptance of their future and its unpredictably.

Congratulations, Teagan! We wish you the best of luck with your new adventure, and we look forward to the chance to welcome you back to the MSA stage!
