Opening on Thursday September 3 --- Creative Alchemy features the largest collection of Jacquline Hurlbert's works ever exhibited in an art gallery, paired with new incredible, haunting works by Steve Eichenberger.

The artist couple with be in attendance at the opening reception, 5-8pm this Thursday so join us if you with to learn more about their process and inspiration.

Next week we debut Creative Alchemy, a duo show featuring works by Portland artists Jacquline Hurlbert and Steve Eichenberger.

These three ink on paper beauties by Karen Newman attracted much attention this month because of their intricate lines and storytelling.

Here is what Karen explains about them:

"In the ever present cycle of life, death and rebirth, the quieter, somewhat less dramatic and less considered part of the cycle is decay. This is a series that looks at decay across three different eco systems, the fen (‘Feed Me’), the pond (‘Life Line’) and the woodland (‘Nurse Skull’). Each ecosystem is unique in the ways it uses the processes of decomposition to turn death into new life and continue this inevitable circuition."

This small piece by Meg Allan is quite remarkable as you look at it closely and woudrously. Fellow artists spent a lot of time looking at it during opening reception and some reached out as they could not believe it was graphite. It's truly special.

Titled "Gift for new wings" is made with graphite on claybord panel and it measures 5x7 inches (7x9 inches framed).

Here's what Meg explains about the piece:

Last Summer our local Eastern Spinebill pair raised two chicks in our backyard. During the day I would watch the two chicks being fed by both parents, then bouncing up the plants, learning to fly. At the same time they left, I found the skeleton of a bird nearby that had probably moved on to the next life at the same time the new birds were born. It brought to mind the cyclic nature of life and death and how nature is a reminder of the omnipresence of both.

"Progeny" by Paul Garcia is a stunning acrylic on board painting (9x12 inches) which explores notions of life, death and how the two feed each other.
